Greetings everyone!
Alchemy isn’t just about the potions and applications of them, though that is certainly a large part of it. Sometimes as an alchemist, you just need the right tool for the job. You need something to hold all of those pesky liquids in one convenient place. Well finally you can have it with the Bottomless Bottle.
Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.
If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron
Design notes from Matthew:
We all know about the lovely bag of holding and its propensity to store large amounts of goods and one could say that would negate the need for something to store liquids. Just put all of your bottles in the bag and call it good right?
Well I challenge that and say, what if you wanted to store a lot of liquids in one place that didn’t require you to fish around in a bag for an amount of time. Or, what if you wanted to pour one person a glass of one substance, and someone else another. Well now roleplay opportunities start to present themselves.
I love delving into uncommon items like this as they challenge me to make something conceptually strong as opposed to just powerful within combat. There’s a million ways to make something powerful in combat, but it’s so much more fun to try to make something have powerful implications without it being a combat boost itself. It provokes creative thinking. That’s why I love uncommon items personally.
Illustration notes from Fernando:
When Matt was ideating this one and told me the mechanic concept of a bottle that holds several liquids but dispenses whichever you’re thinking of I immediately had an image of someone taking a swig of whiskey off the bottle to prove it’s safe, then offering it to a guard and thinking “poison” right before handing it off.
That’s one of the things that lead me to include the jester on the label, it’s a mischievous and deceptive item by nature, which is why two of the limbs on the jester’s iconic cap are curled up like goat horns, evoking Loki’s signature helm. I also added a dice motif to the handle to depict the seemingly random and playful nature of this bottle.
The bottle was inspired by a modern beer growler, so it order to make it look more old-timey I replaced the top metal band that holds the handle with leader straps instead, it makes no practical sense, but adding leather or cloth straps always gives an item a more medieval/fantasy feel.
We’ve got one more alchemical item coming for this month as well as Elixir, our potion making supplement for our “One More Thing” release. We’re so excited to continue sharing more with you as we keep creating. May will be bringing some collaborations as well that we can’t wait to share!
We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
