One More Thing: Elixir

Greetings everyone!

We're back again with your monthly One More Thing release and this time we have quite a big one for you. We declared that April was for alchemists and to drive that point home, we've got a new system that adds on a relatively simple alchemical crafting system to D&D. It's intended to be something you can give to your players and let them run for themselves during down time. We're calling it Elixir.

Alright so I might have went a little overboard on this release. Typically we want these releases to be about 1-3 pages and offer a reasonable amount of fun bonus content, but I just got really inspired by the idea of this system. The more I thought of it the more I wanted to add in. It started with just a little bonus crafting system for alchemical substances and grew to include a background, feats, a new tool kit, and the original system I had planned. 

Elixir is a push your luck mechanic built into downtime that allows you to try to craft potions that go above and beyond their basic effects. I really wanted to play with the volatile nature of pushing new boundaries so the idea of pushing your luck to see how far you can take it seemed like a fun way to pursue item crafting. You'll always succeed in making the potion you set out, but you may not always get everything that you want on it. 

I tried to put a good amount of personality into the properties you can add to the potions. I wanted them to feel like they even had an impact on the item's name. So when you craft a potion of healing, you may end up with a Keen Potion of Healing. The idea of altering names to show that they're more than their base really stuck with me. It was the first thing that came to mind with the system and it made it through to the end. 

I'll be real, this was a good amount of work for a bonus release, but I really love it and I hope you all do too.
