Scrollkeeper's Case

Greetings adventurers!

While some fumble about with paper and ink, I’ve found that it’s time to move beyond that old chestnut and into a brand new cashew. I’m moving over to completely magical storage these days. Sure, it takes a little bit to get used to the conversion, but it’s so much easier and none of the power is lost in the transition. Now you can have all of those scrolls in one easily accessible magical storage device. Not sure what to call it yet, but I was thinking of personalizing it a bit. Put an “i” in front of it or something.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:

Look, I just think it’s a bit silly that these wizards that do everything with magic from cleaning up their soiled robes to picking up their tea for them with a magical hand, would still be carrying around a bunch of paper when there’s perfectly usable magical options. That was kind of the basis for this entire piece. I’ve been wanting to do something that almost like a bag of holding, but for scrolls. We had previously created a bag that let you copy scrolls into your spellbook passively, but it didn’t quite fit for this idea.

Honestly the initial part of copying the spells over was extremely straightforward in both systems. A bit of lore added to the start and some swirly worded descriptions took care of what I was going for on more of the flavor side. I think limiting it by a time measure of copying things over makes it obvious that this is meant to be more of a passive thing you do at the start or end of the day instead of in the middle of an adventure and it keeps it out of the way of the flow of play.

To give the item a bit of unexpected power, I had the idea for quick casting that I’ve seen in various video games, ways to bypass the cast time as it were and just get to the casting bit. I thought that could be a fun mechanic to play into the “easy storage” nature of this item. You obviously have to limit something like that though so relegating things to bonus or free actions is not something to take lightly, thus the once daily rules.

I had been longing for this kind of idea for awhile and was a bit surprised I hadn’t seen anything like it in the wild as of yet, so I decided to make the thing I wanted to see. That’s typically how I like to tackle these kinds of things if I can. It just makes for better design when you’re excited about what you’re putting out.
