The natural world possesses many wonders that are still yet to be found. Bursting with possibilities, the wilds still hold much that we don’t understand and some things that we would struggle to comprehend. Those who practice druidic magics know all too well that the world we inhabit is magical in its own way, possessing wonders and mysteries that few will ever lay eyes upon. One such mystery comes in the form of this gauntlet that seems purpose made for the adventuring life, though it still seems to be a living thing. What a wonderful thing to have in my shop.

The ideation style that we have for items that we create is all about finding some interesting mechanic and then executing it to the fullest. Sometimes that doesn’t require much work and sometimes it requires a ton of figuring out how to best present the thing within the context of the rules that we have. This case was actually a little bit of both.
The first part of this idea, of it representing this kind of rope and climbability, was quite straightforward. There’s already some rules present for rope and grappling hooks in both 5E and PF2E which made the process of putting together that part quite smooth. All it required was the right bookend language about how to activate it and how long it lasts. It’s important to put those things into your pieces and it’s something that many writers early into their career can forget.
The second mechanic was a lot more complex and involved a lot of back and forth over if I wanted to make it an unarmed attack or something that required a save. I must have gone back and forth on this section 5 different times but ended up settling on something save based so that it doesn’t get trapped in some of the odd scaling of weaponry. It does mean that it’s useful for less time if things scale out of the DC, but that’s some of the sacrifices that must be made.

There’s a lot to think about with spring approaching and summer vacations become a reality in the not too distant future. We’re still committed to bringing you your content every week, but it does mean some planning is needed. I’m looking forward to the warmer days though personally!
