Greetings adventurers!

Many think of the largest varieties of snakes when they think of dangerous reptiles, but did you know that the common rattlesnake causes more deaths per year than bugbear raids? I have no idea how true that fact is, but I like saying it nonetheless as it proves my point. Regardless of the degree of certainty, we can all agree that snakes can pack a dangerous punch, waiting for the right moment to strike their prey with deadly venoms. I thought, maybe we could mimic that and give those who prefer to fight with their fists a bit more flair.

There are a lot of situations where I think the application of poisons could be a really cool part of games that I’m in, but sometimes the action cost to get one out, apply it, then do something with it is just not worth it in the end. Whether that’s true or not is up for debate as arguable, many poisons are actually well worth that. It’s just the problem of getting players to prepare a bit in advance. It’s something that many just don’t think to do before a fight for some reason.
I wanted to give players the option of a little bit of prep before heading into the dungeon. Acquiring poisons can be a bit of a struggle depending on the type of world you have built, but if you have an alchemist on hand that could crank out poisons for these gauntlets, it could be quite a powerful addition to any party.
I had initially considered having the poison built into these by default and just giving it a number of uses per day, but I thought that balancing around the ability to obtain the actual poisons would be much more interesting. There’s a constant problem with preparedness in many adventurers these days, and I think sometimes designing to be less reactionary in combat can make for an interesting item like these.

I’m proud to say we are well over 200 magic items now in our catalogue. I don’t know how far I thought we’d get when we started AB, but I am very happy with how far we’ve come. We’re getting into the summer months now and I plan on celebrating with some well earned vacation time throughout the next few months. It won’t change our release schedule, but I hope you can do some nice things for yourself as well.
