Ok! This is going to be long. I apologize in advance & I hope that I eff up the mood of your comments. I'd like to say this: I cried w Riley & LOVED Kandi for making sure the scene was not MIC-ED to protect her daughter's feelings. I have to say this: my dad raised me because my mom developed a terrible drug problem that went from weed to pills to coke to crack & became abusive towards me after they divorced. She, basically, threw me out in the middle of the night while she was high when I was 12 & I grabbed my cat & a stuffed animal and that was that. She sporadically called & only when she wanted something. Then, disappeared entirely. She never gave my father a DIME in support & he never pursued her for it. I had MANY of those awful moments from age 12 to about age 17 with her crap. I never trusted her again. Last I saw her was in family court in 1990 & I'd spoke to her 3 times before she died in 2009 even though I made sure she could always call me & find me. I reacted with pure rage in my youth but Riley is much sweeter than I was & is at SUCH a confusing age for girls. I can relate. And, through it all, my dad, even though I was basically like 'Fuck her' when I was young, has NEVER said a bad word about her & would always just say that she did her best. Kandy is AMAZING to recognize & encourage a relationship between Riley & her Dad (regardless of his inconsistency & lack of support) & counseling is an amazing idea! I say all this to say that this is the most important storyline I've seen on Atlanta since ever because children being estranged from their parents is amazingly common & children are left without tools to deal w the scars & emotional ruin left by a lack of parental involvement. Kandi is handling this well & seems to know when to unplug to cameras & mics when her daughter has had too much. It's a needed storyline for scores of children who've been 'left behind' from neglectful parents.
