#891 Below Deck: Brounion

There was a lot of ugly behavior related to power on this show this season which could have led to a REAL discussion about how we treat one another & why. No matter if the issue was whether one was great at their job or not, how hierarchy was used, or sexual politics in the workplace, there was a stunning lack of basic respect at times exchanged amongst this crew. I'm sure it's stressful to work & live together but the excuses used to explain away ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR were thin AT BEST! Scratching towards the core of that behavior during the reunion would've been interesting & actually quite useful. Andy's lack of thoroughness during the reunion squandered all opportunity for those experiences to mean something to more than the crew. There were social & timely issues playing out amongst the group of people on the reunion stage. Andy comes from news and seems to have good instincts. I think that he could pull off an AMAZING interview if he really wanted to. It would've been nice if he behaved as if he cared during this reunion & used his abilities to get to the heart of what occurred this season on "Below Deck" because these issues actually reflects some of the social strife that people deal with daily. It could've been important. Oh well. I guess behaving like Guy Smiley is just more fun... See ya next year.

There was ALOT that wasn't covered in this reunion and it further pissed me off (there's usually SOMETHING annoying me, IN GENERAL). I can't BELIEVE that they allowed Adrian off the hook IN THIS REUNION with an "it's cultural" wash! WHAT. THE. FUCKING. FUUUUUCK!!! My family is from Barbados which is British & St. Croix, which is Dutch and I GUARANTEE that if given a choice between flirting or losing a way to feed yourself, most West Indians behave with caution. A West Indian will choose their job EV-ER-Y muthafuckin time as opportunities on many of these islands are few & far between (especially since the disastrous hurricane seasons of late). Adrian's "culture" is one of privilege given to a white, male and NOT ONE OF NATIONALITY! Hospitality is a matter of national pride and economic base in these countries & blaming his behavior on his West Indian upbringing is disgusting & an insult to the nation that fed him. One's perceived cultural "leanings" does not excuse abusive and bias in the workplace or even most modern civilizations and is not part of any ritual to find love regardless of what Bridget Bardot or Catherine Denueve says. Adrian has the Internet. He has Twitter. They have the NEWS in St. Maarten (AND St. Martin). He can read. He knows what he was doing wasn't a "joke". His goofy ass was trolling for sex and bitchy about Ashton's ability to find women interested in him physically; Adrian even spoke about his sex drive at the top of the season. The Universe didn't alert him whilst meditating that it's not cool to hit on your co-worker just because you don't have sex for half a summer? Try that shit in NYC with your new employer and see if they fall for that "I'm from the West Indies" bullshit. By land or sea, get socially educated before you try to "woo" someone; you're an adult man and it was INFURIATING and NAUSEATING to watch!
