I hope you’re holding up in these challenging times. The world feels increasingly uncertain—wars, economic instability, and a flood of overwhelming news make it harder and harder to stay hopeful. In the meantime AI is becoming more powerful scary. Many of us are struggling with our mental health, often silently. I know I have been.

This year has been especially hard for me. I’ve battled PTSD and depression since childhood, but the weight of recent months nearly broke me. I experienced severe suicidal thoughts and withdrew completely from the things I love—including my D&D groups, without a word. I felt invisible, unheard, and truly alone.

Thankfully, a friend noticed. He checked in. Every weekend, he offered his time, simply to listen. That act of care saved my life. And it reminded me of something important: we’re not meant to face this world alone.

So, before anything else, please reach out to the quiet ones in your life. Send them a message. Make a call. You never know the difference it might make.

Why I’m Writing This

I created BirdieMaps out of love—for TTRPGs, for storytelling, and for community. From the very beginning, I made all my maps freely available in full resolution, because I believe that creativity and joy should never be locked behind paywalls. This spirit spread through the community, inspiring other creators to do the same. I'm deeply proud of that.

But now, I’m at a crossroads.

Since going full-time with BirdieMaps, I’ve been scraping by—about $2000/month, which barely covers rent, insurance, student loans, taxes, and groceries. My modest goal was $2800/month, just enough to cover expenses and create a small buffer for the future. But with rising cancellations and a decline in growth, that goal is slipping away.

I don’t want to stop doing what I love. I don’t want to let this dream fade.
