Bonus 410: Amazon Algorithms + Restaurant Disappointment

Comments

Thanks for the recommendation on Giovanni's Ronnie! I've been wanting to check them out!

Love these chats! "Recommended for you- 6pcs Different Color Vintage Feather Metal Bookmarks." Umm, okay....

I have little kids and I'm not an organized person at all, so I have also resorted to baskets all over my house. Baskets in every corner! Just so I have somewhere to throw the endless kid stuff! Maybe there's a better way but I haven't found it.

Leslie

This has nothing to do with this podcast necessarily, but because of your southern charm podcast I looked up Mackenzie Childs and now I'm getting their ads all over my social media, so THANKS FOR THAT! 😂

Leslie

Ronnie, I have a DeskCycle. I hate it.

There’s a restaurant in Seattle in a ✨frank Lloyd wright✨ building called “Canlis” that everyone raves about. Supposedly the best restaurant in the PNW. My husband took me there for my birthday and it was meh. Under seasoned, not too much flavor, very “bland white people food.” I felt horrible telling my friends that it didn’t live up to any hype because my husband was so excited to go there, he’s wanted to go all his life. Soo…. Skip canlis in Seattle and go to Altura in Cap Hill instead. You won’t be disappointed !! Sorry hubby 😂

This bonus episode was amazing!!! What could sound like a mundane topic always turns epic with you two ☺️

Love the sommelier's psychological warfare, totally negged you with the cheap wine comment then went on forever so you'd order just to shut him up.

In Dallas, Nick snd Sam’s. It’s pretty popular and shows up all over social media. We know one of the owners, so I thought we’d spend our anniversary dinner there. Was full of the fake millionaires everywhere, food was meh and I did not understand the hype at all. The owner’s son and our son are in school together, so I cannot say a word publicly, but I was bummed with the experience

I’m convinced LA has the biggest imposter issue with fine dining restaurants out of all the great food cities in the US. I have had so many terrible experiences with service and mediocre food at supposedly very high-end restaurants. I feel like part of that is my bias coming from the Bay Area where we have just so much great food and way less of a “scene” atmosphere but part is also the restaurant staff attitude in general. Servers are mostly using this as a second or third job to make ends meet in LA whereas in the Bay Area and other foodie cities you have people working at a particular restaurant because they believe in the chef, the culture, and a lot of them work at that location for a long time to go up the ranks (getting their sommelier credits, want to be a host etc).

Your Dad - love that sense of humor ❤️

Was that the judge that said Brian V had no soul? I have cursed that man ever since

This reminds me of what my Dad used to say when we ate at super expensive restaurants: if It was pasta: “You couldn’t carry $50 worth of penne on your back..” he was a born and bred NY’er so do It with a NY accent. Also, one time when we were getting terrible service he said to the waiter; “Are you an actor?” “Yes!!! I am! Maybe you know me from (insert something no one has heard of) “Any chance you can act like a waiter tonight?” Again, NY accent. But we usually got pretty service because he always tipped the maitre’ de way IN to a place as opposed to on the way out..

Ben, I hear you, I’ve been living that basket life for a few years now. There are 12 in the room I’m in right now, and it still needs one more. My favorite have proved to be Marie Kondo’s line at The Container Store, and the fair trade company Expedition Subsahara. Expensive but worth it.

Ben, I had the same disappointment when we went to Manresa, a 3 star Michelin restaurant in Los Gatos. They charged for everything. There was a wine pairing that you could choose to go with the prix fixe menu. Since we had a two hour drive home, my friend and I elected to share the wine pairing and they charged us for the additional glass use. Thankfully I had checked out the cocktail menu before we went, so we tailgated rosé in the parking lot before our reservation. All this bother and to this day, I can’t recall what we ate. 🤷🏻‍♀️
