That said, usually you guys are a little better at seeing the nuances with people Mary is definitely the gift that keeps giving. But the cult stuff is really bad. I know you guys think it's funny. Mary's grandmother started a Pentecostal Church. It is very typical for Black churches. There's a lot to make fun of and question. But we keep calling talking about the Mormons, who make people wear strange underwear and only decided I could go to heaven the 70s, with respect. Do you see how harmful Whitney's bubble headed commentary really was? Don't get me wrong, Mary is hilarious. And necessary. And problematic. But the way her church has been framed is problematic. ALL churches (as evidenced by Whitney's announcement about her tithing) demand money. And charismatic churches in the Pentecostal tradition are the most wild about it, but there's been zero nuance with Mary and tons with the Mormons. There's been a lot of framing from people who haven't been interested in providing any context.
