So a long time ago, I remember playing with a distro called Puppy Linux. I liked the idea that it could run off a jump drive or live cd. Then when I went back to college one off the instructors started his class by booting the computer that was relegated to the room connected to a ceiling projector and hid did it by plugging in a jump drive and using that distro! Anyway, I took a quick look the other day and saw it was still being maintained but didn't delve too far into it. My question is, have you heard of it/and or used it? I think it would be kind of a cool tool to test out laptops or computers (intel based of course) to see how they run before you buy them. I wonder if anyone made a PPC version of it, or if there were some live-cd PPC or jump drive linux distros that you've used in the past?

I have an X220 and an SL510 sitting around; I ought to splap Haiku on them.

Nice O2 system! Apple did sell the B&W G3 with a SCSI card/drive as an option, so that may have just been the stock drive judging by that nice cable management

My college gave everyone a T-series when they started. The T30 was the first year and the T40 was the series my year got (I bought my own laptops so I didnt have one...). Those were totally IBM branded. I have a T61 sitting in my closet now, it's a tank!

Oooooohhhhh look at that SGI system!!!

Jonathan Cilley

Hey I got the same G3 recently from a coworker that managed to pry it out of the hands of her husband's hoarder boss at a print shop! Mine is 100x dirtier though!

The login screen is also a photo of Dartmouth's campus looking toward the computer science building.

That G3 was the most unique machine I had there. Found at an estate sale in a house clearly owned by a fellow "enthusiast." Pleased to see it getting some attention and curious to see what you do with it.

Chris Nelson

Some lovely kit! Wish we had something like VCF here in the UK.

Haydon Beagley

Try 7P on the SGI o2 for the login. You may have already cracked it by now but it would be cool to see what programs the uni had installed on it before you reformat.

The B&W G3 is one of my favorite Macs despite the fact the IDE bus is💩and its FireWire implementation is half baked (no booting or target disk mode). My Rev won’t even boot without a charged PRAM battery. It’s also pretty picky about SATA/mSata converters. I’m gonna need some iMac G4 shenanigans someday though. It’s the crown jewel of PPC form factors and would love to see what you do with it in such a small form factor.

Joshua Waire

Can’t wait for more AT&T UNIX shenanigans! I tried to compile hello world on it during my one lovely day at #vcfeast but I got some weird error. It made me smile more than a successful compile would have. Lol I thought I was in mastodon when I wrote that

It apperas that the college is Darmouth college in Hanover, NH(that IP address belongs to them)
