BONUS VIDEO: Tearing into an SGI Indigo2 10000 IMPACT!

Hello Patreon friends! I just got an SGI Indigo2 10000 IMPACT, a  nearly top-of-the-line machine. However, it was sold as "untested" -  which we all know means "definitely doesn't work". Let's tear into it,  and see if we can find any shenanigans lurking inside!

so a while back. I had 2 SI boxes. Indigos. I got them from OSU surplus sale (ohio state when that was still an in person thing you could go to on certain days of the week) but they didn't have mice or keyboards or anything. no monitors or whatever. I really didn't know enough or maybe the right people at the time to help me get them going. I may or may not have accidently left them in a closet of an apartment I moved from unfortunately. Seeing al;l the things you and your friends are able to do these days makes me yearn for things I no longer have, and should have kept OR not passed on buying when I had the money. Lessons learned I guess. At least it cost me way less to enjoy your journey with what you all are doing these days and maybe I'll get around to tinkering again too.

Well there you go - clearly that one screw was the problem.

Amazing. I enjoy your patience. You give me hope on my adventures

I've always wanted one of these systems! I've worked on them for other people and I had a Indy a number of years ago! Glad you got it to come back to life.

Did anyone jump up and shout YES when the SGI booted with video? So fun!!

Matt Giraitis

Thanks so much for sharing this exciting video! I'm so psyched to see more SGI stuff -- always a line of systems I've wondered about.

That's cool :) I'm a bit annoyed that I throw two of those in good condition away several years ago. Found them in the dumpster at school where they became obsolete. As a poor student at the time I used it as my main computer, so I wanted to run something bit more mainstream, so installed gentoo linux, one of the few distros that supported it. And boy how slow it was to compile the entire system from scratch. Thanks for the video and the trip down memory lane

If I remember correctly, the "IMPACT 10000" that we have is the 2nd-best config, just one notch below the "MAX IMPACT"... but I might be swapping their rankings around in my mind, it's been ages since I thought about it

Oh wow, I have this same model + configuration! Excited to see one pulled apart 😁
