2025-10-10 17:56:01 +0000 UTCOk so there is some cut content here that baffles the community as it’s incredibly important for understanding Al as a character, this is incredibly important info that will sound like im spoiling you but i promise im not, it is ludicrous that the anime has not tried to fix these So, in season 1 Al actually explains to Subaru that he is also from our world, and has been in Lugunica for 19 years (the anime did adapt this, but into the chibi specials that play during the breaks when broadcasting on Japanese TV stations so obviously people in the west will miss them, they also waited for season 3 to do this too for some reason). This fact is why Al calls Subaru “bro” and why Subaru used the analogy of pulling back a child who was trying to walk out in front of a red light to explain to Al his feelings regarding doing the speech and fighting for the city Now for the other baffling part, in Al’s battle with Capella it’s actually revealed he has a similar power to Subaru that allows him to revive upon death (the specifics are what set his apart from RBD where instead of it always being active with unknown reset points, Al actually has to set up a “domain” which as long as he dies inside it he will respawn at the moment in time that he set it), the anime did elude to this fact by having Capella say “how many times is it going to take before you can actually kill me” (which A. doesn’t make sense since only Al can remember his resets and B. Is very ambiguous considering she is immortal and it will sound to 99% of people like she’s talking about her own dying and not Als) and then later by having Al say “dying hurts you know, especially the first time” but again this can just sound like Al being a goof as he’s known to if you have no context. Al actually died over 1000 times against Capella, which implies that either and when he collapsed the room to escape that took him 10 attempts to not get crushed by falling debris I know this is lengthy but here’s the final thing: Al also calls his ability an “Authority” which you might remember is what the Archbishop’s of the witches cult, Witches of Sin and Subarus abilities are listed as. A lot of people theorise Al could be the missing Archbishop of Pride that Subaru was mistaken for but that’s still just a theory so I won’t burden you with that. Als full name was stated by Priscilla in season 1 (at least the one he uses in Lugunica since it’s clearly not Japanese) and it is Aldebaran which is the name of a star, you might also remember Subaru noticed all the archbishops and with related characters share this fact (as well as Subarus name itself being the Japanese pronunciation of the “Pleidies” star cluster) Al is a very intriguing character and the author listed him alongside Satella and the Dragon as the 3 greatest mysteries of Rezero, the anime staff clearly knows this as they did give Al some shine this season but it’s both too little and too late which is honestly sad as he’s probably my second favourite character

2025-10-10 17:41:13 +0000 UTCHonestly despite willhelms voice not sounding great at the beginning, Rezero actually has easily the best dub out there in my opinion, every character either completely matches the Japanese or adapts how they would sound to a Japanese person for us, I recommend watching either Subarus “I hate myself speech” or his speech to priestella, Sean Chiplock absolutely kills it as Subaru The only problem is, it also has easily the greatest original voice cast of any anime I’ve ever watched in Japanese so there’s never a reason to watch Dub if u have to choose 😂😭
