STORMS THIS WEEKEND

LOOKS LIKE AN ACTIVE WEEK OF STRONG STORMS and possible some tornadoes. There currently appears to be a lot of overturning and residual mess, but somebody somewhere should get some neato pictures.

My new license plates for the "Wind Breaker" never came in and my dealer plates expire today. Other good news, I lost my drivers license.  Not gonna let the little things keep me from chasing.

Those evil black demon faces are edible black water chestnuts. Got em in China town, but i think they're way too cool to eat.

I'll keep ya posted. Please do the same.

Stumbled across the Colorado video while wandering YouTube last night. You already had 12,500 hits!!! Why didn't you post it here? (2) Is there an index to your videos? I don't want to waste your time asking questions you've already answered. Grazi grazi

GOES is an excellent tool for pin pointing storm initiation. It often reveals Cu fields (fields of cumulus clouds) boundaries and other clues. Once storms are underway I generally switch to radar unless I'm concerned with storm anvils (for shooting sprites and mammatus clouds ect). You're likely going to have a tough time catching a supercell here in SE TX. We just don't get them very often... but we do sometimes. When we do, they're usually too messy (wrapped in rain and obscured by precip / moisture) to be photogenic. If you can start broadening your domain a few counties west, you'll increase your chances significantly. I can relate to you.. 25 years later, and I'm still saying "That's the most amazing storm ever" :D Right now we're exiting the sea breeze regime. Sea breeze storms fire up with the daytime heating (ocean to land contrast) and die at sunset. The detached anvils set the stage for gorgeous sunsets.

What do you see in, for instance, GOES-16 that tells you where to pre-position? I am now lusting after my own supercell in time lapse but it needs to be in Harris or Ft Bend or Brazoria counties. You've inspired me to look up. I have around 2000 pictures of clouds in three months and iPad time lapses !!! Almost every day, I hear myself say 'that's the most spectacular thing I've ever seen.' The Houston sky is a wildfire of clouds lately. So I imagine driving towards Surfside and parking my car at the edge of a vista, setting up my iPad and catching a supercell forming up. Is that unrealistic? If not, what are the shortcuts in figuring out where to park? Be careful out there homes. Wish I were going!!
