It's been a whirlwind! Not exactly the kind I've been looking for...
MAY 18th weak storms developed in SW Kansas but when the lights went out, man they were sparky. Snapped a thousand shots of lightning (not exaggerating) from sunset until about 1AM and I think there will be some unique footage outa this chase. Another highlight was a thirsty bull snake I saved from becoming another belt on the highway.
MAY 19th was a rat race in N Oklahoma. Storms fired up around 1:30pm and died as fast as they began. I was bouncing from one dying storm to the next until finally a yummy storm got going and went tornado warned. Perhaps I was a little too enthusiastic, but a nice officer put an end to that. 53 in a 35. I don't mind the $207 fine... It was the 20 minutes it took for his pen to warm up ;D By the time I was close enough, a gorgeous mesocyclone was dying. Interesting thing... Dying mesocyclones are pretty darn pretty as well. Shot time lapse of that.
MAY 20th brought me down to East Texas. Kinda convenient. Storms are raining themselves out over Houston as we speak.
THE FUTURE: "Uncharacteristically weak flow regime for May is expected to persist this week" Not looking good for tornadoes, but it is looking great for sorting out and editing all this new footage for you guys.
Lots of time still left in 2018. Thank you guys so much for your ongoing support.
