YESTERDAYS'S LIGHTNING - Tomorrows BS

Fantastic lightning display yesterday in North and Central Nebraska.  Last couple years I've been trying to capture great images of lightning in the daytime and yesterday delivered some more goodies to the portfolio.

ALIEN LIGHTNING SIGHTNING

Later that night I witnessed something I've never seen and I'm a little sad that I might not see it again for awhile.  Maybe I was in a daze, but it was a cliche alien-esque encounter. I was all alone in the middle of the night on a lonely dark road in the Nebraska Sand Hills. Close cloud-to-ground lightning strikes hammered the ground for not 1 full second, not 2, but at least 3 seconds... Maybe longer. It was freaky, dreamy and creepy... And of course, I didn't capture one.  This occurred about 5 or 6 times.  The flash would strike somewhere I wasn't looking, I'd turn my head around and still see it, and it wouldn't go away. If you told me this, I wouldn't believe you.  Perhaps my mind is exaggerating, but I'm trying to be as accurate as I can. At any rate, of all the thunderstorms I've been closely observing over the last 25 years, I've never seen anything like this.

LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER LULL in the forecastable tornado activity. Gonna take advantage of the down time and deal with the more exhilarating side of storm chasing... Paying tickets, dealing with insurance and body shops and logging files.

THIS TRAIL was a great success despite the awkward start. The fake T.I.T. did it's job well delivering me to several tornadoes, supercells, strikes, sprites, the works.

Cheers From Nebraska!

Hey Matthew. I just dropped the T.I.T. off at the car doctor. I heard the Northern Territory has some wicked storms in November and December.

Hey Hank! How's the T.I.T holding up? I saw the damage just today, keep safe my man! Don't get to see those wicked storm cells down under - so it's a pleasure to see them recorded and narrated so well!

Sounds like a slice of fried heaven. One day I'll have a porch swing like that.

Well, at least you're getting some more great lightning photos this season. I watched many great lightning shows as a kid in the 50s and 60s. My grandparents lived in El Reno most of their lives and although I grew up in Shawnee, for some reason, the lighting shows were always better in El Reno. Probably had something to do with sitting on the porch swing with my grandfather, eating ice cream out of the carton with him while watching the lighting show. Ice cream always makes lightning better.
