PLAN A TODAY

The Storm Prediction Center was kind enough to outline our target area today in a mesoscale discussion (MD). MD's are the days cheat sheets or cliff notes for forecasters who are low on time. Plan A today is to head NW into the center of a very weak tornado potential environment. Once that ends I'll start cutting distance back home to Houston where a small coma is forecast.

It seems like in recent years, northern Illinois has seen an uptick in tornadoes, but this year is going in the opposite direction. As you said, unless it turns into a trend, one year is not something to get excited over either way. I got some video of a wall cloud a couple miles south of my home on this day (June 26, 2018) in the south 'burbs of Chicago. This was the storm that produced an EF1 tornado in Manhattan, IL shortly before I shot the video. https://youtu.be/r_ERnwVVuuY I
