Today's Chase - May 8, Kansas

On the commute yesterday Daniel Shaw and I were treated to this craziness.  It was identified as a circumhorizontal arc (sometimes referred to as a fire rainbow) by Paul Smith & Zachary Hargrove.  They are created by the refraction of sunlight or moonlight off cirrus cloud ice crystals.   Apologies to Daniel for screaming like a school girl over the coms... He thought I had an accident.

Here's todays target...

The latest NAM and HRRR model runs have a substantial dew point spread between the two.

HRRR for 5PM...

Here's the NAM for 5PM...

That's roughly a 10F degree difference between the two!  The amount of energy in 10 degrees of dews is substantial.   I feel like the HRRR has been off this year. FYI, these models are updated all the time.  Check out the current surface observations...

So what to you think... NAM?  HRRR? or a mixture of both?
