ON THE FLIGHT BACK, as we were approaching Houston, I was documenting a thunderstorm from the airplane window. We made our runway approach descending to about 2500 meters and suddenly the pilot hit the throttle / yoke, and shot the aircraft back up to about 8000 meters passing the airport. I suspected a downburst (most suspected terrorists) and the pilot eventually confirmed the strong wind shear was not worth the landing risk, but not after letting the passengers sweat on it for 30 minutes or so.
After several cut backs, we landed and everyone applauded. Then we got the news that all the crew was pulled off the the runway due to the cloud-to-ground lightning activity. We sat on the runway for another 2 hours while lightning crashed outside. I was the only one enjoying it.
