Quite a difference in GFS runs since yesterday’s slam into Florida. This run has the eye wall staying just offshore before U-turning back into the Atlantic.
Good news for Florida. Georgia, Carolinas... not so much. I’m not a hurricane expert but it looks like this scenario would generate a MEAN storm surge from Georgia to perhaps Virginia. With an eye wall offshore, weakening will be reduced thus hurricane winds covering more turf. Perhaps that outcome is better than a Cat3-4 Direct slam? I’m just thinking out loud from my safe location in Houston. At least for now.
