April 13 Chase - LA/AR/MS

Rollin’ rollin’ rollin’…Hoping to fish something out of a mess today in the circled vicinity. Very optimistic I’ll enjoy driving through rainy forests. Gotta roll! Stay safe everyone.

Vicksburg?

Hope you had fun Hank.

Can't wait to see the video. Been watching your old ones on you tube to get in storm season mode.

Jeff

Sprites! Cool...and other goodies!

Brent

The Jackson tornado warned storm was pretty weak. No sign of neatoness. Good anvil crawlers and some really good sprites I think. Not a bad day. Gonna take a while to dump and archive the last three days of footage . I love that problem. Thanks Patrons! So good to be back out here.

Thank you Richard. After further review and familiarity with multiple remote sensing platforms, what I saw was either a doppler error or natural attenuation. Since, other than x-ray, no systems available to we common folk can visualize through solids, liquids, or some gases depending on wavelength (wave-particle duality), it appears this anomaly, was possible due to a squall near the radar. Which makes sense for the angle where the anomaly occurred. I found this which aided my understanding. Thank you again for the info on Outflow boundaries. I found them enlightening. https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/20110022492/downloads/20110022492.pdf

Sun spikes (or spokes)are a possibility too. The radar actually picks up the sun’s energy at sunset and confuses it for precipitation.

Would this be a good time to try and get TLE pics as the storms move on, should one opt not to chase?

Brent

It's still there and my curiosity has the best of me. So is the anomaly a physical obstruction or is some part of the doppler itself causing this attenuated signal? It's kinda cool and can trace it back to the platform.

Brent

It's probably just a little bit of radar attenuation .. it happens from time to time...

Richard C

You be safe as well.

Susan Engels

There is something funky with the KDGX radar at about 250 degrees (like 8 o'clock)...an anomalous straight line of noise. Nothing jumps out but a long line of messy stuff headed toward Jackson. That anomaly isn't on KPOE or KLIX. Good luck and keep your powder dry,

Brent

There is a computer generated tornado thing but it is really close to KDGX radar and it looks like noise when compared to KLIX.

Brent

Tornado Warning for Jackson, MS!! Hope it’s not rain wrapped. 😬

Brenda

they just tornado warned the Jackson area but it's hard to tell if it's for real or not.... The radar is right on top of it but it looks like broad rotation nothing tight
