Monsoon 2022 Sneak Peek Pics

This year in the desert my objective was to capture more real time, lightning storm video rather than stills and time lapses.   It was a very active Monsoon while I was there with surreal colors, but I feel I didn't capitalize the best I could have.

I certainly captured some wonderful moments, however I'm haunted by the events I just missed... Either too far away or pointed the wrong way.

I partially blame the Covid. Despite having very minor symptoms, I felt drained and  a lack of drive to drive for 3 or 4 days.  Nat and I are both back home feeling 100%, however I still tested positive Monday.

I'm already looking forward to the 2023 Monsoon.

BTW, all these shots are video grabs. The 8K Sony Alpha1 did surprisingly well with a substantially improved rolling shutter.

Tonight a storm complex is expected to push through Houston. One of these days I'll get a break from harvesting storm footage and edit a video.  Thank you so much for the support Patrons.  Next stop, Tahiti!

Hank, I just found these on 8/8. They are amazing video grabs. The monsoon is now delivering some rain and thunderstorms to Salt Lake City, so thank you for flapping your arms to blow the monsoon our way. I hope your and Nat's time in Tahiti is fabulous.

Barbara Jeffries

Thanks buddy, that's the plan!

Ryan Seek

Glad to hear you are both feeling better, I was so lucky to drive though a weird far northern monsoon event yesterday. That weird blue-green sky was in SW Wyoming, something I haven't seen in the Rockies. Your images are awesome as usual. It's a weird weather year. No Covid for me yet, knock on wood. I got Bed Bugs and pulled over for the first time in 4 decades. No tickets, just a stack of warnings. Mortified old lady crying works? LOL.

Brent

Thanks for all the guidance Ryan. Hope you clean up the next couple weeks.

Very impressive images for video stills! And talk about simplifying the process of capturing lightning, with video recording you'll never miss a strike. Glad you were able to come home with something worthwhile Hank, and the trip wasn't a total bust due to COVID. We'll see if we can get you on the right storms next monsoon. You know I'll be there for you with my intel.

Oh WOOOOWW! Those are gorgeous shots! Such clarity! I love the colors and the rainbow. I'm glad you feel better too. Enjoy Tahiti! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž

The sunset photos are just perfection.

Ashton (Infamous)

Some good bolts and much needed rain.

Pecos Hank

Yep on the drone. Youโ€™ll never forget those flashy sunsets.

Pecos Hank

Those are awesome!! Covid or not, your shots are always so captivating!

Brenda

!!!!! Thanks for the heads up. Caught the storm !!!

Some excellent grabs, loving those ground contact shots. Glad you are improving, positive test late in the game seems to be a thing. Wife did the same thing.

Mike Castles

All of those grabs are impressive, I really like the second to last photo with all the step leaders; I assume that was captured using a drone. I hope to take a trip to the southwest some day in the future to take a crack at getting pictures of the lightning.
