Shading options

So, the sketches for all the foreground sprites are complete. I am sure I will be commissioning more foreground sprites, but for now, I like the current suite of expressions.

One thing that I am struggling with, though is the shading approach. Jonas has done an amazing job of all this art. Above you can see three examples of his art with three different levels of shading.
Up until this point, the concept work he has done for me is soft shaded. For the game, I am starting to wonder if cell shading or no shading at all would be better. I think it's because most visual novels I have played have a kind of anime / toony look to them. Interested in your feedback. I can't say I will agree with you all but I would like to know what you think!
