May 6 High Risk Chase & Saturday's Tornadoes

When the SPC upgraded the moderate risk to high risk, every redneck with a vehicle and camera phone decided to chase... Including me.

Those of you chasing in Tennessee might have a better chance of catching a tornado than us in OK & KS...

Expect a high risk of long lines moving slower than cell motions. 4 out of 5 vehicles will likely be patient, accepting and courteous. And then there's that 5th vehicle. It might be worth it to choose a secondary target in Kansas. As of now, I'm thinking I'll join the hoard in Oklahoma. Extra caution, awareness and patience will be needed today.

SATURDAY, I finally scored the Ft Stockton Tornado. Here are a few video screen grabs.

Good luck and stay safe everyone in the risk area.

Three F1 tornadoes confirmed in SW IA last evening, including 1 near Minden, IA where an F3 produced significant destruction or damage, and 1 death on 4/26. Damage was rural with 7 properties having outbuilding structural damage. No house damage or injuries reported. There was also an F0 confirmed near Beatrice, NE in SE NE.

I agree. I suppose they feel that its better to be safe than sorry, but it does create a "cry wolf" scenario and unfortunately some people will start to ignore the SPC weather risk statements. Omaha got a good amount of heavy rain again last evening. I noticed that the rock pilings along the banks of the Missouri River were completely covered up, earlier in the day, when I was traveling to Sioux City. Last year, were in a drought/burn ban for the entire spring/summer season. This year, we have so much rain that the farmers are struggling with flooding in their fields. Ugh!

I don’t envy the job of the SPC nor do I really understand what the issues were yesterday so I can’t say I blame them for having the risk be so high given the parameters that were in place but issuing a risk like that and having just a single strong tor after dark well to the east of the original risk area after shutting down half the state for said severe weather has consequences on the public conscience regarding high end severe weather days in much the same way the false alarm ratio with tornado warnings makes people take them less seriously. Gotta figure out what went wrong so we can adjust our forecasts accordingly in the future.

Dang what's up with all the late night tornadoes in the last couple'a years... Seems like More of the same this evening

Except for Barnsdell/Bartlesville, it looks like a bust so far.

Nada. Good night everyone

Pecos Hank

Damage in Barnsdall looks like at least high end EF-3

The storm north of Tulsa looks really horrific on radar.

Wendy Jay

Those poor people!

Tornado on ground just north of Shelby, IA, east of Minden, IA where tornado was on 4/26.

Brenda

Just getting home from Sioux City, IA. Hoping we are not heading into a repeat of 4/26 in Omaha, NE. Tornado Warning (Radar Indicated) between Elmwood & Ashland, NE (east of Lincoln, NE).

Brenda

My families in the pink west of Wichita, in Cheney area. Hoping it’s not as bad as it looks to be.
