Patreon-Exclusive Q&A!

Heyo! Since we have so many new folks on here from checking out the 2025 ID showcase I thought I'd do a little exclusive Q&A / discussion type thing to follow-up.

So first up - ask me anything!

But also, (if you can be bothered) I wanna know:

Comments

Hey welcome! Happy to have you here 💙 In answer to your question - for sure. It seems to happen to every sub-style at some point - an over-saturation and a cultural clinging to certain ideas or concepts. It's the same sorta thing as Zomboy's sound post-Terror Squad which was mimicked by so so many immediately after that track blew up. It's bound to happen but I'm always focused on what's new and different regardless of genre. All the best artists in Colour Bass make sure to combine the genre's sounds with something new: Convexity with Jazz and complex rhythms, MIKESH!FT with hip-hop and Riddim vibes as just two examples. As you can likely see from my recent posts on here I'm on the verge of embarking on somewhat of a new UK sound while carrying some aspects of Colour Bass along with me. Newness in music is all about new combinations and so that's always what I'm going to look to and support the most.

Harvey Goldfinch

Hi chime ! I’m kyshi/ky and im based in the states in Nashville, tn. The first tune i heard of yours was actually the song that got me into colour bass-sleepless with temanite and pixel terror. I had been listening to a lot of 2018-2020 monster cat at the time when it released, so i was stoked to see two of my favorite artists collab, but i hadn’t heard of you. So i listened to your discography and now im here lol. My question to you (if you see this lmao ik uve been pretty busy lately) is Do you feel like colour bass is getting too samey? I feel like it’s kind of getting to the point that like riddim was a few years after it got popular where there are a lot of talented artists, but most of the styles (looking at you, 16th note stabs) have been done so many times it just feels like its hard to make something unique without it kind of sounding weird or not having a super good reception.

Kyshi

Hey sorry! Totally missed this one. I'll tackle your Qs in order: - The micro or anti drop has been a thing for ages. Most prominently I discovered it with "All Night" by Camo & Krooked but I've followed Bop since 2009 who makes "Microfunk" and I've always loved the concept of subverting expectations with tiny dance music. - I think that's the We Rise remix I just released. Not part of Aetherborne! Just has a very similar melody to Goldfinch so I snuck the leitmotif in there. - A lot of experimentation and happy accidents usually! - I found recreating popular sounds very difficult. I don't often spend a ton of time in the box of Serum or whatever and prefer what I call "alchemic" sound design where combining sounds and FX produced the final product rather than a meticulously tweaked patch. - The hardest part of music production for so long was mixdown but now creating non-drop sections has become more of a difficult thing for me. - I saw the music video for "Omen" by The Prodigy and wanted in on that. Found I already had the GarageBand app on my hand-me-down Macbook and started playing around with loops. - I can neither confirm or deny this haha - I'm not really interested in involving any more social media accounts with the Chime project atm, sorry!

Harvey Goldfinch

Oh I'm really looking forward to your EP I hope it comes out this year :)

Shatt3rium

hello!! just joined the Patreon, mostly for the sound design tutorials, and also out of curiosity for that 2025 ID showcase. i'm from Chile the first track i heard from you was Coins!, just last year, after my brain randomly came up with "chipstep" and led me to find it. i decided to look through the YouTube channel and was hooked instantly. got me back into dubstep (not counting the Sweden remix bc i didn't know) i'm an avid/aspiring EDM producer, i started learning seriously last year, after finding you actually. i'm being ambitious and aiming for an official release before the end of the year okay questions, uhhhh they'll be kinda short - where did you find the microdrop? - is ID - ID (Chime Remix) from the new showcase part of the Aetherborne follow-up? i heard Goldfinch - how do you come up with your own sounds, and know how to bring them to life? - what was the hardest part of sound design for you? what would be your advice for it? - what was the hardest part of *music production* for you? what would be your advice for *that*? - what got you into music production? - is Tokyo Machine also Xilent? (there's a theory idk) - can you bridge your Bluesky account to the fediverse plsplsplsplspls? i wanna follow you from there (it's basically another social network, check fed.brid.gy/docs) (edit: why is raw enter the keybind for send and not ctrl+enter)

Jux

Hey! Glad to hear I've inspired your musical journey 💙 I do have an EP planned which includes the song with 7KY and a few others. The Nytrix collab is set to release as a single but unfortunately the PsoGnar collab didn't end up working out

Harvey Goldfinch

Hello from Russia!!! I first listened to you when Teminite released a collaboration with you and PsoGnar "Monster". And I started listening to you on a regular basis in 2021 and it was thanks to "Phototropic" and "Wait For Me" and "Sleepless" that I discovered the world of Colour Bass and what can I say, I am also a Colour Bass artist now, so to speak, I have learned quite well in 5 years and this is gratitude to you. YOUR STYLE IS VERY UNIQUE AND I WILL FOLLOW YOUR RELEASES :DDD and more I wanted to ask when you have a new EP, because I'm really looking forward to such collaborations of yours from 7KY, Nytrix, PsoGnar and other interesting releases. :DDD

Shatt3rium

I will probably make that Subterrain VIP available on here pretty soon! Yeah I really like the melodic MUST DIE! tunes. Snowcone in particular was big for me cause it combined melodies with basses when I was really getting into that The unreleased music pack can definitely happen alongside a C&C one!

Harvey Goldfinch

Oh and one more question cuz you stated this posibility in an older post: Any news about a music pack with unreleased Chime tunes that will never see the light of day - plus maybe even "caution and Crisis" music pack?

Niki

1. Similar Outskirts writes the most beautiful and touching melodies imho (okay together with Panda Eyes), so I guess you two could really work out as a team to write more riff-based Colour Bass people will be able to sing along too ^-^ ;) And SimOut dippin' into more UK-ish Dub could be pretty interesting tbh 0.o 2. Oh Subterrain is super goated. I love these deep wobbles in this chune. They give such an 2012-vibe but with new production techniques. Very delicious. Already saw your "Subterrain VIP"-Clip on Instagram and am really looking forward to this one. All of your micro-drops cause a huge hype in me, cuz I think the small approach is a beautiful contrast to the more general "who has the biggest... drop" (;D) quest. Especially when these minimal drops do slap live even harder than big drops lmao xD 3. Interesting! So is it reasonable to say that you'll especially like the kinda fairy/dreamy- Must Die! tracks the most? His old Music really has a beautiful vibe. I think my most favourite of him is his "Feel It All"-Remix, "Epiphany Rush" and "Misery System" at the moment. I just really enjoy the euphoric energy in these ones - Oh and "Nova Machine" cuz it slaps and has a perfect melody in combination with a fat Brostep-esque drop. 4. I totally get that. I just looks sooo smooth and synced to the music. If you ever analyse the movement of your arms, I guess there'll be a group of people that would like to learn more about it. My moves are just too basic atm T.T lmao

Niki

Hey no worries! 1. That one is part of the planned Aetherborne follow-up project but is the only track that's fully completed for it at the moment (and has been for quite a while at this point). I have no concrete plans for when that follow-up will arrive other than "some general point in the future", possibly on an anniversary of the albums release. I might end up putting the track up here for you all to enjoy while I figure that out! 2. Yes the follow-up project will be very much separate to my new style and will follow on from the general style and themes of Aetherborne. The release will be much more about wrapping up the story for fans of the album rather than a calculated, branded release. So yeah I'm not completely steadfast in NEVER returning to my old style in that sense. 3. It depends on the theme of the tune! I think maybe I have a slight preference towards liquidy sounds at the moment though.

Harvey Goldfinch

hi!! sorry for the late questions, i’ve paid for this membership pretty irregularly recently 😭 im in the portland area and the first tune i heard from you was either goldfinch or the talus battle remix you made a while ago, finding both from the same rhythm game i just had a few questions if thats alright: 1. this is specifically directed towards a certain id (around 4:40 to 6:25 in your recent showcase), which i was just curious if you had any specific song/artist inspirations when working on that tune because i absolutely LOVE the vibe of it and is one of my favorite works from you along with that, do you have any major intentions on releasing said id before the rebranding? 2. in terms of the aetherborne sequel, do you think the signature “aetherborne style” of the first album will mostly stick in the next one, or will it be adjusted more to fit your rebranding? 3. do you prefer working with more liquidy and atmospheric sounds, or sharp and crystal-like sounds? thanks! :]

greystr3am

Hey Niki! I'm not totally sure what you're referring to with the text messages so you're totally good! haha I'll answer your Qs: 1. It's always possible although yeah I'll definitely be trying to collab with artists that make sense for my new style. I actually think neither of them are super into collabing anyway! 2. I really think Subterrain is an underrated track from my album. I always end up coming back to that one and I've even made a new version of it to "bring it with me" into my rebrand. I'll probably post that up to Patreon at some point! 3. I honestly think my fave MD! tune is "Snowcone". That was mindblowing back when it came out and super inspiring to me. "Feathers" is another great one too. 4. I have no idea how I would do that haha it's literally just how I dance >_<

Harvey Goldfinch

Hello from Germany :), First Chime tune I heard was your "great Fairy Fountain" Remix when I was searching for some Zelda Dubstep back in the days. After that and a few years later your track "Missingno" completely blew me away following by "The Big crunch". And yeah, the rest was history I guess. I'm deeply sorry if I ever crossed a line with one of my text messages in either asking for too much and not really knowing when to stop pushing or just due to the sheer length of my text messages. I know I can be A LOT to handle °^-^. If you didn't listen to Justin OHs album "Welcome to the City Of OZ", I'd definitely recommend in listening to this. Especially "She's A Killer" and "Don't Bring Me Down" are top notch from their drop ideas imho. Okay so here are my questions: 1. Is there a chance you might do a collab with either Similar Outskirts or Asteroid Afterparty - most likely not I guess cuz of your style-change? 2. What's your most underrated track you've made - in your opinion? 3. Favourite Must Die! track? 4. How about doing a dance Tutorial for Patreon xD? You mastered the style of dancing to Dubstep :P

Niki

Yeah theres like a little to no bass music scene at all over here. The closest we've got is Chipzel 😔 Anyways thanks for the tips!

AtryxOfficial

Hey Axle! Thanks for bein' here and your love on microdrops! Rushdown is on indefinite hiatus and I don't think it'll return until I can have a team behind it that allows me to focus solely on A&R and deciding what we release. So that's very dependant on my ability to grow Chime over the next few years. There is a planned follow-up to Aetherborne that will wrap up story elements and also contain ARG stuff. I'm not totally sure when that'll come out - possibly on an anniversary of the original release but not this year's. No other albums planned for now - definitely focusing on singles and EPs at the moment.

Harvey Goldfinch

Hey Atryx! I haven't heard ANYTHING about a dubstep or bass music scene in Northern Ireland - do you guys have shows there? As for tips on gaining followers, I'd say at the point you're at just focus on developing your music as much as possible and just throw stuff up on SoundCloud. Maybe show your face in some Discord servers, tweet at some other producers you'd like to be involved with - but first and foremost the music needs to be great!

Harvey Goldfinch

Heyo! Im from oklahoma (boring) and the first track i heard from you i think was cloud factory or potions, youve be a huge inspiration in my production journey. ive been in LOVE with your microdrop push since the start add hope i can add onto that train in the future first- i was wondering about the future of the rushdown label- because as an amateur producer, my dream is to get onto rush down an an official artist and to collab with the artist ive been inspired by i also like the new colours albums :3 second- is aetherborne 2 real? i feel like i’ve heard word of it but idk if that just wishful thoughts follow up- is the aetherborne arg gonna continue? lastly- do you have any albums planned or on the back burner? it’s been a while since aetherborne

AxleOrSmth

Whats up, I'm from Northern Ireland (please do a show here sometime im dying lmaoooo) and the first Chime tune I ever heard was Sleepless, which I discovered through Geometry Dash three years ago. As a producer, I wanted to ask what you would consider the best and quickest way to improve as a music artist, and just the best way to get your music out there in general. Personally, I've been composing for around 3 years now, but find it a struggle to bring in new listeners, even with collaborating with slightly bigger artists or getting my music promoted through channels with around 2k subs. Anyways thats about it, but if you have any other advice I'm happy to listen. Also as I've already said; shows in northern ireland when????!!11!?1!??!?!?!?

AtryxOfficial

Oh shit, I didn't realize he was the composer! I knew the beginning sounded a bit Tell-y.

Windfall

Hey thanks for being here! Vegas is cool, I played at We All Scream (the funky ice cream venue) back in 2023 with Skybreak As for tackling new genres, I think it's important to listen to a bunch of it to get a feel for how the production varies. You can't for example make a D&B tune with all of your Dubstep tools. You'll end up with drums with much longer tails than you need and it "sounds" like it has been made by a Dubstep producer. You have to adapt your tools and samples to what feels natural for the genre and tempo you're working with.

Harvey Goldfinch

Hey! So no Serum presets planned right now. I find it pretty difficult to make stuff from scratch on there tbh I still keep up with Adam's stuff - one of my favourite producers honestly. I actually repurposed a second collab of ours for Homeworld. He's on the credits and everything

Harvey Goldfinch

Yoooooo Chime! HUGE fan of your work bro! Its cool seeing you interact with fans its really awesome :D But I currently live in Vegas! I actually started getting back into EDM when I entered college. I was but still a huge jazz cat but absolutely LOVE EDM. I started producing back during the quaratine but never touched EDM until last year because it felt so intimidating and still kinda is lol. I listened to a bunch of your stuff when talking to a friend who also was a chime fan and he got me into your music! I stumbled on "Bloom" and that was the first track I listened too and then I heard your collab with Au5 with "Voidwalkers" and ever since I was hooked! I will say I tried to get into producing Riddim, Melodic Dubstep, DnB and so far Riddim and Melodic Dubstep felt the most difficult because for me It feels so simple but is MILES complex. I was curious when tackling new genres or learning new genres how were you able to sit down and figure it out?

ruuniisan

I don't have much of anything meaningful to ask right now, but I would love to know if you have serum presets planned for release! 1. Anyway, I'm currently stationed in Alaska! Missouri born though. 2. I first discovered your music in the Wait For Me days. I was a prolific fan of the DSG channel. 3. Also, thank you for introducing me to Adam through Whole. He's been going pretty strong! If you haven't, I'd recommend checking up on his new albums from the past couple years. Would love to see you two work together again!

Windfall

Yo Nell! I love Seattle - did you happen to make it out to any of the shows I've played there? 1. DJing is actually far more simple and easy to pick up than music production! I'm tempted to make a series of videos explaining the basics cause I don't really have examples of good tutorials to hand. I'd say starting off with a real basic controller would be great. I have the DDJ-FLX 2 and it provides everything I need without over-complicating the controller with extra buttons and functions. Getting together a bunch of mp3s of tunes you wanna try mixing is also a good starting point. 2. Would be down to work with Nasko yeah! Super skilled producer. 3. Tricky one! I'm not absolutely in love with any of my remixes really. I'd maybe say the one for PLAY by Tokyo Machine.

Harvey Goldfinch

Yo! That's a mad way to find my music! Super cool. My goal for this year I think is to shift my overall sound a little bit. I have a loose plan right now to rebrand on Chime's 10 year anniversary - new logo, an EP and a bit of a darker, UK-inspired vibe - overall something that's more easily marketable. It's gonna take me a while to figure out how I can still be creative within that sound though! I'll still be retaining colour bass sound design of course. It'll just be within the new context and will incorporate micro drop elements and maybe some D&B.

Harvey Goldfinch

Suuuper recommend SO-SO as well as Camellia for Japanese EDM/Dubstep artists; from Taiwan KIVΛ is another great producer, not as active anymore but works from a few years back are still really impressive & powerful

Glystene

Hi Chime! I'm from Seattle and I've been listening to your music for maybe 6 years now? I first discovered you from Kitchen Mix 1 if I remember correctly. Missingno is still one of my all time faves so like yeah it was a perfect introduction haha I had a couple questions in mind: 1. any advice for people wanting to learn how to dj dubstep? my adhd ass is not the type to just try things until i figure it out, so i was wondering if you knew any courses or videos (or would ever consider making one) that might help? Idk how similar mixing dubstep is to other types of music so yeah i kinda don't know where to start lol 2. Would you ever consider working with Nasko? I think the raw production talent on a collab would just be mind-blowing ngl 3. What's your favorite remix (official or unofficial) you've made?

Nell

And when I mean subgenres? I meant stuff like the micro colour bass for example.

Neon Protobyte

Hello from uk. I was pretty late in listening, however my first listen or two was when I found a spectrum world in vrchat that had the great fairy fountain remix in this one playlist in 2021 or 22. Then a little later on got hooked off of sleepless and then more afterwards. Now for the question: What is the goal that has been set for this year for your music? and will there be more sub genres to the colour bass genre in the future? It's always an experience to listen to colour bass, because it always feels new and unique every time. Anywhos best luck to 2025 and can't wait for the new content man <3

Neon Protobyte

that will be huge, thanks 🙏

no internet

Thanks for replying! We didn't meet at SoundCheck but we did at your set at the 8X10 in Baltimore. What a way to come back from Lost Lands haha.

Armadaninja

I think it's the first time I really digged the concept of a micro drop. Possibly one of the most interesting concepts in the edm scene lately if you think abt it lol

BrayIsAway

oh yes i also love hurry up

no internet

Mameyudoufu is awesome. This was all very interesting, thank you!

Instes

Heyy! So it’s gonna be singles for a little while. Generally they’re significantly easier to release and more beneficial overall since each track is given its own moment in the spotlight and none of them get overshadowed in the way they might on a larger project. It’s definitely time for me to get some more EPs on the go though now. I’m feeling like the disparate nature of each release makes it difficult for a lot of people to neatly fit me into a box in terms of style and that’s causing trouble with getting show bookings etc. EPs will allow me to showcase a more solid overall style for each project I think. As for Rushdown, I made the decision to put it on hiatus purely for my own mental health reasons. For so long I was putting a lot of hard work into it purely for the benefit of others / the Colour Bass scene in general and although I’d still love to do that, it came to a point where I really needed to prioritise myself for once. So for those reasons I’m only going to be bringing it back if someone else is able to manage it behind the scenes and I can take an A&R role and make decisions about what we release. I’m not hugely familiar with a lot of the Japanese EDM scene but I do know a few Dubstep / Colour Bass adjacent artists over there like Mameyodoufu, Salty Salt etc.

Harvey Goldfinch

Hey thanks for being here! Fun fact about the “Chee-may” pronunciation - I often play at Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis and there’s a receptionist that works at the hotel they put me up in that initially pronounced it that way and each subsequent time got it wrong again to the point where it’s a running joke that’s spanned a couple of years now haha. I also recorded some vocals for Intermolecular Lullaby in that hotel under the bed sheets lol Glad you liked the Soundcheck set! Love that venue - got the crispest audio and I feel like it’s the perfect sorta size for my kinda shows. Did we end up meeting there? As for your questions - 1. Yes! I actually began as solely a D&B producer and that genre was definitely my first love in terms of EDM. With it finally getting a boost in the US right now it seems like it’s a great time to write some more. 2. I’d of course love to work with Xilent again. The project is pretty dormant right now and I don’t have anything on the go with him for We Are Ghosts but I’d love to make it happen. 3. My biggest inspiration has always been video games, both in terms of their audio content and overall experiences. I think really my only true goal with Chime is to continue being able to do it for as long as I want to - continue playing shows, making music and making friends. Your support here on Patreon absolutely contributes to that possibility so thank you!

Harvey Goldfinch

Hey! Shooting Stars was a surprisingly big tune back in the day. Still find it a lot of fun too. Always love a good space theme. As for your questions (great ones!) - Some of my happiest moments: - Getting married to Mrs. Chime - Picking up my dog Mochi as a puppy - So many moments on The Other Side Tour with Au5 - so much dying of laughter / learning production stuff in hotels and some of my favourite shows I’ve ever played Some things I wanna experience in life: - The, as of now, unknown or even unmade incredible video games I will play in my lifetime - The music I will make / listen to in the future - A society that is vastly more peaceful, accepting and improved from the one I was born into

Harvey Goldfinch

Yo! That’s cool, the PLAY remix doesn’t feel like that long ago but I suppose it’s coming up to 5 years 💀 Music tech + Japanese is a mad combo! Definitely sick though haha I’ve been wanting to head to Australia for shows for a looong time now. It seems like a tough market to enter since you’ve gotta really make a name for yourself elsewhere. There’s also only a handful of places to play in comparison to the vast distances too which makes it expensive. I certainly hope I can make it out there at some point though! I defo wanna score a game in future. I feel like that’s gonna be exactly the sorta thing I end up doing when I can’t really tour any more. I’d love to work on some indie stuff - something like a Metroidvania with multiple themed areas would be siiick Glad you’re enjoying the Vital presets! It’s made how quickly you can make cool stuff in that sunth

Harvey Goldfinch

Hello from Chicago IL First track I heard of yours was (technically) the Sweden Remix but as Chime I think it was Crystal. I've got three questions, if that's alright First, is there a significant EP or even LP release coming soon? The singles have been great but it'd be super exciting to hear something a little more substantial all at once again. Second, will Rushdown be making a return someday? It's been several years and it was genuinely one of my favorite labels to follow with so many great releases on it Third, are you familiar with the Japanese edm scene? For example artists like Camellia, lapix, or the label Hardcore Tano*c?

Instes

Hi from Baltimore! Been listening for a decent time. My first track I heard of yours was Experience Points and ever since the EP I've loved your sound and the direction you've taken it! A few fun facts - I used to think your alias was pronounced Chee.May, not sure why. I think I've also seen you live more than any other EDM artist in the scene at this point. The first set I saw of you at SoundCheck in DC still ranks as one of my top sets of all time (among like 400+ idek how many I've seen anymore). As for the questions, I have a few of them: 1. Do you ever see yourself releasing more DnB beyond the Tap Ho remix? Maybe an EP? I've always been a fan of Hurry Up and the way you do DnB. 2. Any chance at more work with Xilent? With 'We Are Ghosts' hopefully around the corner, that'd be incredible. 3. What's your greatest aspiration with the Chime project? Everything else aside, what would you love to do most with your music/brand?

Armadaninja

Greetings from Norway🖖🏻 First tune of yours I heard was Dec3mber ✨shooting star✨ in 2015😌 I was amazed, and quickly became filled with happiness and tingles🤩 After the first listen I hit 🔂, closed my eyes, and fully embraced the music into my body while I let myself get consumed by my imagination🥰 Have done that with your music ever since that day😌 My questions to you is: • What is some of your happiest moments in life so far? • What is something you wanna experience in life?

Mythical Sparkle

Hiya!! I'm from Australia (would LOVE to see you perform here btw) and I first heard you on Tokyo Machine's PLAY remix compilation; got into EDM via James Landino who's also on that comp so naturally your track was my first time hearing colour bass and the rest was history lol Fast forward a few years and I'm studying music tech on top of Japanese at university, spent about 15 years prior studying classical & contemporary piano but I've been enjoying producing & working on the tech side of things a lot as well Suppose asking about Australia shows would be my #1 question but I'd also love to know if you'd ever want to score a game in the future and if so, what kind or genre? Btw have been having a ton of fun with the Vital presets since I rejoined, great for learning my own sound design ❤️

Glystene

Oh, and regarding the collabs, three interesting/unexpected ones that would love to see, but probably will never happen would be Chime & Haywyre, Chime & OVERWERK, and Chime & Frij. I feel like these might either not work at all or more probably would be crazy af

Jay

Oh wow, thanks for this long response.💜 First of all, it is good you are focusing on your mental health, keep that up! 2024 was also a wake-up call year for me when it comes to focusing on my mental health above everything. And it is sad, but not really surprising to hear, that while Aetherborne was a light in the dark for me, it has burnt you out, I am really sorry to hear that! But great to hear it is getting better! Regarding the trans posts: yes, it really makes a difference, thank you for all the visibility so far. And it is great to hear you plan to increase that, I think I actually cried when I saw your last enby post a few weeks ago. But then again, don’t let that burn you out, I know from some influencer friends how exhausting posting about this kind of stuff can be. Regarding Aetherborne: I will definitely check out this Q&A stream. During the at least 50+ times I listened through it, I have developed my own trans reading of Aetherborne haha. And last, great album list, I will check out the ones I haven’t listened to yet

Jay

Would be so peak 🙏

_Angiee

Intermolecular is definitely one I'm super proud of in terms of how I managed to weave all the different concepts of existentially, the scale of the universe and the microdrop + colour bass combo together!

Harvey Goldfinch

All good haha - a lot of learning experiences to be had from the whole thing

Harvey Goldfinch

Yoo! I actually already have haha. I played at The Green Elephant with Ace Aura & Millennial Trash once and another time with Skybreak. I hope I can come back soon!

Harvey Goldfinch

Hey Jay! Thanks for being here 💙 Thanks for the love on my album! A while back I did a lore Q&A stream where I also went through the fan Google Doc full of theories. You should be able to access that here on Patreon!: https://www.patreon.com/posts/behind-music-q-88103830 The trans rights post was an interesting one haha definitely lost a hundred or so followers from that (but was very glad to). It's good to hear that sorta stuff makes a difference for the people that really matter like your yourself! One of my quests for 2025 is to be more visibly NB in my appearance for that reason. Let's hit up your questions: 1. No plans for another full-length album as of right now. Unfortunately the coalition of the work I put into Aetherborne + a bunch of other factors left me super burned out AND at a point where I was of my least relevance to the wider Dubstep scene in a long time. 2024 was a big wake-up call / rebuild year for that reason - I changed management and re-structured the entire way I work, removing things like running my label Rushdown from the picture to focus solely on the Chime project and my mental health. It has definitely been beneficial in that sense! I've been putting out more targeted singles and have been boosting my number of social posts which has lead to a bunch of new followers. HOWEVER - the Aetherborne story is not finished. As it stands Blue cycling eternally through the events of the album. There must be a way to break out of it. 2. Collabs come to happen for several reasons: - I hit them up and they're down to work - They hit me up and I'm down to work - Management suggest a collab either just generally or for something like promoting a tour When I was touring with Au5 he told me the criteria he uses for deciding whether to collab with someone which I've been kinda following too - the collaborator has to tick two of any of these three boxes: - I like their music - I like them as a person - The collab would benefit my project There are other factors I've added too like: - Fans would love this - What would this even SOUND like? (Would it be an interesting or unexpected combo) - Is the collaborator easy to work with? 3. I'm so bad at picking definitive favourites so lemme spam you with some EDM albums I really like / were important for my development as a producer: The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die Danny Byrd - Rave Digger Brookes Brothers - Self Titled DJ Fresh - Kryptonite TC - Evolution Pendulum - Hold Your Colour / Immersion Sub Focus - Self Titled Camo & Krooked - Mosaik London Elektricity - Yikes! Bop - Clear Your Mind Xilent - We Are Virtual Au5 - Divinorum Infected Mushroom - Vicious Delicious Syzy - Weight of the World

Harvey Goldfinch

Heya! I’m From where the aura man himself live Dallas Texas. I wanted to know if you’ll ever play a show in Dallas with Skybreak or Ace or really anybody?

_Angiee

Sorry about that experience in uni. You definitely managed in my book 💯

LordOfTheTimbs

Yeah haha that one got a lot of attention thanks to Excision playing it out back in the day

Lmao no worries I love long-winded responses! I suppose that is a hard question to answer definitively, you do have a lengthy discography and alot of your music is great for different reasons :p Intermolecular lullaby is my current favorite of yours, the sound design and melody in itself is very catchy but the song itself was very important to me when I listened to it!

Niice! I'm really looking forward to returning to Seattle if I can this year. One of my absolute favourite places to play. Sweden is a throooowback too haha It's always really tough to pick just one tune I can hold up as my absolute favourite. I often end up picking one that most clearly reflects my internal perception of my "sound" at the time of giving the answer. It was Starstorm for a while but I feel my style has developed a ton since that was originally released in 2017. My cop-out answer is "the entire Aetherborne album" since I feel like that's the work that is closest to who I am and furthest from anything I've heard anyone else do - in terms of the story-telling etc. There also isn't one track on there that I can really hold alone as an indicator of my style since they all are included on the album for different purposes. "From Atoms To Pixels" probably gets closest to that I would say - a tune that feels deeply connected to my past and current self. "Make 'em Proud" is another one I'm very proud of (huhuh) but it also doesn't feel "definitive" enough to call my absolute favourite. I hope the question has been answered somewhere in there lol

I am really glad I finally joined here, and will probably stay here for a while, at least as long as my finances allow it.

Heyyy, I‘m from Germany. I actually don’t know what the first track I heard from you was, probably one of the collabs on Monstercat I guess? The first track I really fell in love with was Soda World. Somehow, it took me very long to really have you on my radar. I think I first gave your Album the first listen on January 2024 and immediately fell in love with it. For me, it is now the best EDM album ever (even beats Madeon’s, Porter Robinson’s, Avicii‘s and Au5‘s albums which I all incredibly love). I think the reason is the incredibly storytelling, crazy good sound and uniqueness of each track while everything still feels like an Aetherborne track (even crazy af Mindburn haha). Favorite tracks of yours are probably Intermolecular Lullaby, and Escape Velocity, but that’s very hard to decide. I think my favorite thing you ever put out was that „Trans rights are human rights“-STFU-Reel. That really made my day (or my week haha). As an enby just trying to figure everything out back then, I can say that it is really great to have people like you in the EDM scene!🖤💜🤍💛 Some questions: 1. Do you have plans for another album? 2. How do you decide who to collab with? Or does it just happen? 3. What is your favorite EDM album? Some info I wanna share: I nearly went to a college to study sound design, but then decided to study philosophy and might move to England this year for a philosophy PhD program.

Oh sick! I still have a real soft spot for The Way Home I did go to uni - I did a course called "Popular Music Production (BA)" at Huddersfield University. It unfortunately was really detrimental to the development of my production skills in numerous ways. I lot of elitism and misinformation being pushed by the lecturers which was just terrible for my advancement and mental health Generally university in the UK is by all means a scam outside of certain academic subjects that require a degree like medicine or law. It's certainly a huge shame but I managed either way! haha

Yo! I am indeed aware of how many people want my music on Newgrounds for stuff like Geometry Dash and I am planning to get as much as I can uploaded at some point

Harvey Goldfinch

Hello! I am, infact based in California. I'm pretty sure the first track I ever heard from you was Wait for Me. I still really enjoy it to this day, really iconic. Now for the question. do you have any plans to upload your music on newgrounds? or is that not something you are considering.

no internet

Hey I'm from OH but I'm based in NC My first track of yours was one of these two The Way Home w/Desembra, or Hyperreality w/EH!DE I'm curious, did you go to college or went straight into music?

LordOfTheTimbs

Lmao what a coincidence!

BrayIsAway

i'm from washington too no way haha

Nell

Heyo! Firstly I'm based in WA, USA just to get that out if the way :P The first song I heard was technically your Sweden caution and crisis remix, but the first song that got me INTO your music had to be sleepless which was (still is) one of my favorite songs! My question is, if you had to pick one, what tune of yours would you say is your absolute favorite?

BrayIsAway

Oki... I'm based in Glasgow. First Chime tune I heard I think was 'Wait for Me'... I'm pretty sure at the time I thought it was the best dubstep song I'd ever heard. Unfortunately I think over time it gave me brain damage. x
