IBHJ Chapter 806
Added 2024-04-30 05:23:09 +0000 UTCAfter punching the Kraken away, Bergelmir led the Frost Giants through the sea to ambush Galahad from the rear. As they approached the coast, he noticed numerous watchtowers dotting the shoreline. A look of surprise crossed his face. "This can't be right... They actually built watchtowers here! They should know that the Kraken is our worst enemy, and there's no way we'd make it through the sea. Yet, they still set up watchtowers?" He narrowed his eyes, deep in thought. "Whoever's in charge of this army has some skills. At least they have a sense of danger, unlike those arrogant fairies. Too bad for them, they ran into me, Bergelmir!"
Riding the massive waves that seemed to dwarf even the giants, Bergelmir charged straight for the shore. Eternal Army's watchtowers were quickly decimated by the colossal waves before they could even send a warning. With a snap of his thick fingers, the surging walls of water instantly froze into jagged frost as they reached the shore, crackling as the cold took hold. The surviving sentries caught in the waves were transformed into ice sculptures, frozen looks of surprise on their faces.
The Kraken, punched into the depths by Bergelmir's punch, let out an ear-splitting roar as it surged back towards the giant.
Bergelmir, looking at the approaching monster, smiled coldly. "Let's send the human army a little present, shall we?"
Fire Giants' assault was more ferocious than ever, but thanks to Galahad's Noble Phantasm and the coordination of the various legions, the main force managed to hold their ground, but only just. Then, at that moment-
"What is that thing?"
"Don't tell me... is that..."
"Not again..."
Soldiers stared at the sky in surprise. A colossal black mass, the size of a meteor, plummeted towards them, its writhing, slimy tentacles growing larger and more menacing with each passing second. With a deafening crash, it slammed into the castle wall with terrifying force.
BOOM!!
The glowing, magical wall shuddered violently, rippling and undulating from the tremendous impact. Galahad felt as if a giant, invisible hammer had struck him in the chest, knocking the wind from his lungs. He tasted the coppery tang of blood in his mouth, his teeth rattling.
The impact was immense. Lord Camelot's strength was tied to the willpower of its wielder. As long as their resolve remained unshakable, it could withstand any attack. But any attack that landed on Lord Camelot also struck at the user's mind. This particular blow hit with such staggering force that the wall's normally impenetrable barrier trembled and rattled ominously, the barrier flickering.
As the black mass crashed into the castle, it bounced off the walls and slammed into the snowy ground, kicking up a blizzard of snow and ice. It gouged a massive, lengthy crater in the earth before finally coming to a stop.
The soldiers stared in disbelief at the scene of destruction. As the snow settled, they could see a colossal monster in the distance, its size blotting out the sky. The knights were instantly shocked.
"What's happening? Why did this monster appear from behind us? What is this thing?"
"Kraken... how can this be?" Sigurd muttered to himself, his face ashen. He couldn't understand why the Kraken would go against its nature. Why would it come on land? What was going on?!
The most perplexing thing was the lack of warning from the rear when the Kraken invaded. Shirou had anticipated the possibility of a Kraken attack and had watchtowers built every few miles along the coast. However, the one thing they hadn't accounted for was Bergelmir!
After discovering the watchtowers, Bergelmir unleashed a massive tsunami, destroying and freezing them all before the sentries could send out a warning. There was no way for the message to be delivered.
In fact, with the Kraken's significant movements behind them, Galahad and the others should have noticed something was wrong. But the Fire Giants' uncharacteristically fierce assault made it impossible for them to divert their attention away from the main battlefield. It was only after the rear was breached that they realized what had happened.
The sudden, drastic change in the intensity and ferocity of the Fire Giants' attack had been meticulously orchestrated by Bergelmir all along. As the god of war among the giants, he was well-versed in a wide array of military strategies, from creating diversions to launching devastating surprise attacks.
The Kraken had no interest in attacking the castle itself, but right now, it was consumed by rage and murderous intent towards Bergelmir, who had dared to punch its head in a brazen display of disrespect. Bergelmir used this to his advantage, making the castle draw the Kraken's aggro. To reach and attack Bergelmir, the Kraken had to destroy the little obstacle in its path. And so...
Boom, boom, boom!
The castle shook violently under the earth-shattering battery from behind, and Galahad spat out fresh, crimson blood, the coppery taste filling his mouth. The continuous, bone-jarring heavy blows were too much for his mind to bear, each impact sending pain lacing through his skull.
"Galahad..." The knights looked at their leader's disheveled appearance, their hearts heavy with distress. "Let's fight them to the death!" they roared angrily, raising their weapons.
"No, uncles," Galahad said calmly, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth. "We must retreat."
"Impossible. We can't retreat in this situation," the knights protested, shaking their heads. "We're being attacked from behind. If we retreat now, our main force will be finished, cut down like wheat before the scythe."
"I'm telling you, I'll hold them back while all of you retreat!"
"Galahad, you're asking us to leave you behind to cover our escape? We can't possibly abandon you here, not when the odds are so heavily stacked against you." the knights frowned.
Galahad shook his head, "It's not about leaving me behind, uncles. It's about serving the greater good. I have let the king down, and this is my chance to make amends. If this stronghold falls, there won't be any more defensible positions using the terrain in the areas ahead. The giants will march on Asgard unopposed, and our world will be lost."
The knights remained silent, their faces etched with concern and uncertainty. Galahad stepped forward, placing a hand on the shoulder of the nearest knight. "Listen to me, uncles. I know this is a difficult decision, but it's the only way. Go to the king and suggest that he summons the Second Majesty."
"Galahad, you don't mean..." one of the knights began, his eyes widening in realization.
Galahad nodded solemnly. "Yes, I do. If there's no terrain left to defend, our only hope is to go on the offensive. We must lead the army and face the giants head-on. The Second Majesty is the only one who stands a chance of winning in a situation like this. That's why I'm begging you, uncles. Leave this place to me and convince the king to summon the Second Majesty."
The knights bowed their heads in respect, "We will carry your message to the king. Your sacrifice will not be in vain. We leave this place in your capable hands, King Galahad."
Galahad nodded and turned his back as the knights gathered the troops, preparing to withdraw.
Sigurd frowned, his voice filled with disbelief. "You're going to abandon him to fight alone? This is betrayal!"
One of the knights grabbed Sigurd by the collar, his words coming through gritted teeth. "This is war, not some adventure, hero!"
Sigurd was taken aback. The knight's eyes burned with determination and sorrow, a gaze that he, as a hero, couldn't quite understand. It was a look that spoke of the harsh realities of war, a truth that heroes often failed to grasp.
