Channel Update #37 (July)

Hello, the next video is a full series retrospective on Final Fantasy. I wasn’t going to announce it before finishing it, but it’s taking longer than I thought and I don’t want to let the month end with no new video without saying what I’m actually working on.

Anyway I know I’ve talked about this video a lot in the past, usually in the context of not making it, but after all the problems with the second channel and demonization etc. I just felt really frustrated and wanted to start working on something (anything) but wasn’t sure what. So I ended up changing my mind and starting on Final Fantasy. This means that since early June I have played Final Fantasy 1-16 (sans 11 and 14), which is a lot of game… hence why the video isn’t finished yet.

Somehow I actually managed to convince myself that through a combination of prior knowledge, shortcuts, and rushing, I could play ever mainline FF game in like 3 weeks, and then just make a quick 2-3 hour video featuring only the most important stuff. That was the original plan and it is remarkable that I thought that was possible. Anyway it hasn’t worked because, surprise surprise, playing 14 (long) games took longer than 3 weeks, and the video is shaping up to be longer than 2-3 hours. Right now I am deep into writing the script, so maybe another 2 weeks for the video to be finished. The length is causing problems however.

In many ways this was a bad idea as after finishing one massive video I didn’t exactly want to start on another, and I doubt spending so long on a single video is particularly good from a business perspective, but oh well. I wanted to make this video since starting the channel, so I’m trying not to regret my decision too much and just focus on keeping going and making it good.

For future videos there will probably be another final fantasy video after this (I’m sorry non final fantasy fans), and then Starfield, and then I’ll tackle Baldurs Gate 1, 2 and 3. That’s the plan at the moment anyway. Plans do fail though.
