Channel Update #36 (June)

Hi,

This might be a bit of a long update but I’ll break things up.

1. The situation on youtube (this is copy and pasted from the youtube community post I’ve just made):

I think it was the big response on twitter that ultimately did the job, so thank you to everyone who helped out.

The Adult Games video is still deleted though and it seems it won't be coming back. At this point I've spent so long pushing for things with youtube that I am completely sick of trying so I'm just going to let that video go. It's also the one decision from youtube in this situation that is somewhat understandable (although I do think deletion is pretty harsh). Still at the moment it is at least available on Odysee here - https://odysee.com/@NeverKnowsBest:8?...

And I might try to make it available elsewhere in the future (currently uploading to patreon as well)

Other than that all recent videos are now correctly monetized (although a few older videos are still incorrectly age restricted but oh well, that's youtube I guess). I'm going to unlist the video update now as its out of date, but I'll leave a link here so it’s still reachable - https://youtu.be/FPTXRV1GU4E

And hopefully that’s the end of things. I’ve spent a lot of time and energy contacting youtube, sending replies, checking things etc. It’s been pretty draining. If there’s any problems with future videos I think I’ll try twitter first after the official appeal, but man do I hope things will go smoother for a bit now.

2. The patreon has gone up quite a lot this last month (I think from $1,700 to $3,200+ with over 200 new patrons), so this is probably a good time to reiterate a few things I’ve said in the past. The patreon going up is obviously very positive, and with so much going wrong with youtube, seeing the patreon increase felt all the more meaningful.

That said I do want to clarify that I am doing alright financially. I’ve worked hard at youtube for the past five years and I feel it (maybe a little too much) when things go badly. I want the channel to grow and for videos to do well, but it’s not because I’m under any real financial stress or difficulty. It’s because I want the channel to grow and for videos to do well; I care about the thing I’ve worked hard at for so long. And that’s why updates are sometimes negative and I often worry about video performance and I get a little upset when videos are demonetized or restricted for no reason. But even with everything that’s happened… overall youtube pays okay, I live a fairly modest life, and with patreon as well I would say I’m reasonably comfortable.

So if you yourself are less fortunate and might be struggling a bit at the moment, you should probably prioritize taking care of yourself rather than giving money to me. Becoming a patron is a lovely gesture, but it’s not a necessary one. And while I do think youtube has treated me rather poorly, that’s on youtube. It’s not my audience’s responsibility to provide compensation for youtube’s mistakes, so don’t feel like you have to.

And with all that said I’d also like to reiterate that you can lower or cancel your pledge at any time. From experience I’ve noticed that Patreon actually has really high turnover, with people coming and going (and sometimes even coming again later) all the time. So I fully expect the patreon to drop a bit in the next few months and I hope no one ever feels bad if they ever want to stop their support. By giving on patreon for just one month you are already going above and beyond what’s expected of you.

3. New video. I am back to working on something but I’m not sure I want to say what yet. It's quite a big project though and problems with youtube have slowed me down a bit, so I don’t think it will be finished until at least mid july, maybe later.
