Book Seven and the Title Problem
Added 2023-02-04 18:01:07 +0000 UTCI said that TWC7 would start in February, and I'll stick to that promise, but there's one final issue we need to deal with yet: the title.
I was fond of "Wakerite" myself, because there's a bit of somberness to it. My primary concern was that people would read it as a mineral, waker-ite. But someone has pointed out that it could also sound like a sleep medication, and I'm afraid they're right. =/ That wasn't on my mental radar at all, but that's probably how it will read to many people.
While I generally feel that later titles are not very important from a marketing perspective, I think this is worth revisiting in general. I want the series to have fun titles.
I've considered all kinds of things since I started writing this book. I considered "Ascentpath" for quite a while to just emphasize the ascension. "Graverise" was on the list for a while before I decided it felt too necromantic. "Zenithspire" or "Zenithvault" both have a nice sun motif, but might be too obscure (some readers vocally prefer direct titles like Bloodshadow). I've also considered just modifying the current title slightly and going with "Wakespire".
What do you think? No poll this time, because I'm really all over the place with this one instead of considering several likely titles. Whatever the case, I hope to pick a final name for the competition and the book, then we can settle in.
Let me end with some good news: I think I'm entirely done with all TWC7 edits (barring something new and these title issues). So there are few obstacles left to beginning a regular chapter posting schedule.

I'm going to go with wakespire, I really like that title. That said, the Zenith titles are pleasant as well. It's rather easy to see the dilemma as well.

2023-02-05 19:14:08 +0000 UTCWait, the "spire" part was supposed to be associated with "pyre"!? I read it as a a tall and extremely steep mountain or possibly a tower. But I mean, I don't really care that much about the name. And if the name seems a bit off, it can always be explained in the text. Like letting Theo be surprised by the real meaning of the term, because he had expected it to mean something else.

2023-02-05 02:30:07 +0000 UTCI love that one in theory, but it would read as the material "pyrite". Don't worry, it's not like chapters are trapped behind this issue! You'll be getting more next week regardless, though I really hope to have settled on the final names by then.

2023-02-05 02:21:58 +0000 UTCTo bad you can't do anime splashes to differentiate Wake/Rite! (Anime protagonist bursting through title screen). Style choises will get you every time.
