CinemaSins VVitch Reaction

Just a silly little video, no hatred intended! Blowing off a little bit of steam after all the seriousness. There is a fair bit of swearing involved so careful who you play it around, I don't want to ruin anyone's Christmas.

And on that note, I hope you have an absolutely wonderful holiday. I'll be finishing off True Detective afterwards and I'm going to put up another post for voting on what we cover here next very soon!

Merry Christmas!

I used to listen to their podcast, and they would take turns writing the scripts, or even have other writers write the sins. So Jeremy is often just reciting jokes others wrote, not always on the fly. This was years ago though, I wouldn't be surprised he just riffs and sings on the fly these days. I watch the "Everything Wrong With CinemaSins: "Insert Movie Here" videos by Th3Birdman now

I've read that the guy who does CinemaSins has admitted in an interview that he just gets drunk and rambles about a movie literally on the fly. So if it seems like he hasn't even watched the movie he's 'sinning', he probably hasn't! Amazing he gets so many views, tho. Based on what little I've watched on his channel, it seems the early videos did have some 'real' criticism of genuine plot holes, inconsistencies, continuity errors, and whatnot. As the years go by, he's just cranking these things out and, literally, bullshitting as he goes. And making a ton of money doing it.

Because you mentioned it also, for me - a non english native speaker - it was hard to understand anything of what they were saying, not because of the grammar or old timey words, but because of the mumbling. I only have standard TV speakers too, I dunno if it would be better with a sound system or head phones. The father was very hard for me to understand. About the hidden faces, this sheet (or whatever this is) the left side actually looks much more like a face to me than the right side, more like a woman, but as humans we love seeing patterns everywhere, so I am not convinced yet that there are any, but maybe a separate video would change that ;)

Also want to comment on their shit about Katherine calling upstairs to see if they’re asleep at 30 minutes in. I think an argument can be made that despite all the kids being up there she specifically calls out Thomlison and THEN Caleb because those two are more likely to answer and she also sees Caleb as being honest and pious enough to answer honestly. That’s how I see it. She wouldn’t expect a lie from him.

I’m heated and laughing at the same time. Some of CS jokes sound like animosity disguised as humor. Also, we watched Nosferatu on opening night. Holy hell, what a phenomenal film. We’re trying to go again sometime this week.

Look I know these videos are all in good fun but omg cinemasins kinda gets me heated cus sometimes it’s like he didn’t even watch the movie 😭😭 and he makes so much damn money from his terrible takes

Caroline

Your complete guide to Nosferatu (2024) will be epic...coming Xmas 2025! (don't forget me in the credits! lol)

Fourth Horseman

I saw Nosferatu yesterday and found myself thinking “I wonder how Novum will interpret this part!”

Paigers

Nosferatu. Holy Fucking shit..

I honestly used to think they were funny when I was a young teenager, which was like over a decade ago? Now as an adult they’re just annoying and I feel like anyone can see they’re blatantly wrong about a lot, lol.

Caroline

I remember losing my mind watching the one he did on Fury Road.

Greatest Hits

Does anyone actually find them funny? Calling it comedy feels like a cop out for not actually “sinning” a movie without actual work

Sometimes cinema sins have some fun takes but this video is a prime example where he just goes for the easy grabs instead of spending the time to make it good. To make a jump, I'm following a few revivers on YouTube, Jeremy Jahn, Dan Murrell and Mr Sunday movies for example, sometimes they tear a movie apart and it is a fun view cause I know they are doing it after trying to enjoy the movie, but their best videos are the ones where they totally love a movie and just fanboy from start to finish. Someone who does the "oh let's point to the faults" good is pitch meeting, he doesn't seem so high and proud when making his comments as cinema sins does andfor me his criticism seems to come from a good place where the comedy outweigh the negativity.

wow— never seen this sins channel before but talk about a bad faith, suck the fun out of the art take. i think you’ve made excellent points. my interpretation of what is going on with this creator is that they perhaps didn’t see the value in taking time to understand the (admittedly, dense and perhaps difficult) dialogue simply because of the type of english used and this has trickled into their entire worldview toward the film.

I felt as offended as you sounded at some parts there lol. btw, after your massive research, what would you say are your top five (or so) books to recommend to us viewers who want to dig deeper into the topic of vvitches? I'm not trying to make more work for you, so do feel free to disregard this. only do it if it feels fun. edit: ignore my sleepy ass, I must have zoned out at the early part where you list some recommendations in your video already! adhd brain moment.

I sin Cinema Sins for ripping off Kermit the Frog’s voice for his sh**ty videos! P.S. - I loved your “The VVitch” analysis! Keep it up!

Adam Cummings

Thank you for the awesome breakdown and for this additional content. I’m going to give it a second watch over the next couple of days. Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Alison

Lol please don't apologize for the length of your time on these. I'm personally not for Cinema Sins' brand of "comedy"; take as long as you need to argue against the heinous bits, it's truly cathartic.

Surina Slack

As someone who holds a real disdain for people who devote their time to tearing down films (whether it’s under the guise of humor or not), seeing you poke holes in all of their nonsense is a real joy.
