[From the journal of Dr. Blake, these declassified entries detail the weeks following Specimen 467s containment.]
LOG ENTRY 2.2.22: Following numerous reports in the area of a large creature living in the sewers, crews were dispatched to investigate. Locating and containing Specimen 467 resulted in 3 soldiers sent to intensive care. Initial reports describe latent crocodilian features, very unusual. From what we know of the Xenomorph species, they take on traits from their previous hosts. This particular creature shows a keen awareness of its surroundings and captivity. We have not discovered a nest or other specimens yet. Further observation required.
LOG ENTRY 2.3.22: The specimen shows signs of higher intelligence. It does not make attempts to escape, though it appears to have memorized the feeding pattern we have established and is content to consume the meals provided. It also shows signs of self awareness, one might even call it a personality? Several staff have reported the creature lunging at the observation glass to startle them before stalking away and making low, chuffing sounds. Is it laughing? We have never recorded a Xenomorph in play. Further observation required.
LOG ENTRY 2.6.22: Staff have surreptitiously nicknamed the specimen, Brutus. While it has not been officially recorded yet, several of my assistants' notes refer to it by that moniker. It seems ironically fitting. As well, 467’s playfulness has been noted several more times. A staff member, without permission, brought a soccer ball into the cage as a gift to Brutus. The specimen has claimed the item and has been seen playing with it.
LOG ENTRY 2.8.22: The past few days have been filled with discovery after discovery. The Lab results finally show a mixture of crocodile, human and Xenomorph DNA.
We have noticed that Brutus does not show aggression to staff in uniform, however he is noticeably agitated when our military staff escort them into the room. He appears to recognize their guns and outfits from when he was captured. Although he has not lashed out at any of them, we theorize he would become immediately hostile if they were to become a threat.
On the other hand, our scientists and assistants who wear the stand issue lab coats have been able to approach Brutus without fear. He seems mutually interested in them, going so far as to sniff them from up close.
We know the crocodilian olfactory system is highly developed. I wonder what sort of information Brutus can glean from merely smelling a person? He is a dangerous mixture of feral instincts and calculating intelligence and we cannot know what goes on in his thoughts. Brutus is the most interesting specimen I have ever had the privilege to observe.
