Thinking about a new tier

Hi all, I'm grateful for all the support with the current tip jar. It's really helped me get through recently.

But I've been thinking about a starting a more solid commitment to my Patreon, that and I'm currently struggling with a lack of confidence with my art... and being broke ._.

So I was thinking about starting a tier where you can get a monthly sketch of one character, no background but wearing anything, on anything, drawn with my favorite sketch pencil with light shading, the bizz.

This way it isn't as daunting as a full on commission and I get to practice what I'm good at. That being mainly draftsmanship. I've attached examples too, the last one is sort of more of what I wanna do

Please help me figure out a good price to make this tier

That being said, you may wanna limit this teir, lest you get overwhelmed by people like me. XD

Ooo, if this is headed into the artistic freedom area I'll def be bumping up my tier to get more of your art.

Oh yeah, in that case, definitely what I said is pretty dumb, sorry :x

I agree with the direction Nore is pointing. But in my opinion you shouldn't even use a limited fixed tier space. You are about to maneuver yourself in a paying scheme where you a constantly feel obligated to deliver while partaking school for something which only scales to the set tier amount. Without the tier limit you have the recipe for disaster: A possible unlimited amount of work. I know the feeling of imposter syndrom. Not as someone who is doing art but as someone who is developing software. We often tend to compare ourselfs to people who seem to have more skills. This is a leading to distorted view of your own progress. So to get you an outsiders perspective: You make great art. You have dedication and you definitely have skills. Quite frankly you are one my most favored artists and the day you post a new image is always a good day. Now about the patreon tiers: To make this clear: You need money to live and it is absolutly reasonable to ask for something in return for the time you invested. Sadly most artist undervalue their effort. What I would recommend is to strive for passive income. Which means effort you only have to put in once but which will always be an incentive for people to be new patrons. So in your case that could be additional variants of an image. For example the artist "alcor" is doing something like this. If you want monthly commissions as a way to get a variety of ideas and challenges I think it's better to do that separatly or if you prefer to combine that with a tier, do it as a raffle where a patron can sign up separatly if they might have interest. This way you are able to control how much you are doing in a single month without feeling too much obligated and wrapped in work. There can and will be months where you can't deliver. If you are serious about building your income from this you need to prepare for such situations.

Thank you for making me think about the finer details Nore, you're a lifesaver. After doing so it does seem like I will be able to do it, and it sort of balances my life for the better too. Oh and I'm really grateful that you brought up communication, patreon messaging sucks so I guess I'll have to make a discord server to make up for it, that way its a little easier to reach me there. I know not everyone will have discord but itll be a plus for the one that do. Thank you again

Sketching is definitely something I do really well. Its actually the steps after sketching that I'm not so efficient at and thus it takes a substantially longer time to do. Proportionally, the time I take to sketch is about 1/6 to the time I take to finish a commission so if I were to adjust the price it'd be around $6 for it ^^', using time as a measure of value alone that is. I saw a great video once that explained why a graphic designer who designs good logos faster are worth more than one who takes their time. You shouldn't punish someone for being efficient sort of bizz

Okay first of all, I think Nore's advice is really good. As for the pricing, my friend once helped me figure this out - take how much work it takes you to do a sketch like that and compare it to amount of work for a full commission. Same proportions should go to setting up a price of a sketch compared the price of a full commission. That said, I think you can definitely charge $25-30 for this tier x3

I want to support you and I want you to consider other factors to balance your personal life and Patreon as I've seen a couple of artists burn themselves out to keep up with the monthly pace. How much time does it take you to make a sketch? Are you going to come up with the scenario idea yourself, or are you going to run after your patrons through messages and discord to get it? How much you think you can manage per month = Tier space limit?. Your art is amazing and I'm glad I can help you keep making it, but do it smart and don't let it walk over your school or personal life. Take care bud.

I also agree with $25-30, I'd sign up today. Your art is very worth it.

At $30 for a sketch I might need to be cradled to sleep every night just cause of how much that is ^^'

I agree with the 20 to 25 but with your art you could charge 30 and get away with it.

SIGN. ME. UP.

I think $20 - $25 would be a good price range
