What a chapter to catch up on! I doubt we’ve seen the last of Kal. My guess is that he wants to fake his death so he will be freed of the angel’s scrutiny. I don’t think he’d be dumb enough to face the angel head on when he knows he is no match. Maybe he can use his creation powers to create a clone and that’s what the Z killed?
