[Salvos] 744. Tortured Soul (Removed for KU)

(Removed for KU)

Comments

My obsession on came with reintroducing the goblet, with that said I was not expecting salvos to come and save them especially with all those branching objectives they set to try and save themselves

Travis Brown

Main protagonista show up Deus ex machina is weak as f..k writing and diminishes all development of side charaters

Where does that sense of self come from in your opinion? I think it is newly started whenever a clone is created and a destroyed clone dies as a person. After Sally's return I think that will change to Salvos holding a pool of consciouses inside her and she chooses which to deploy (or to create a blank one) when creating a new clone. Those consciouses are then updated when/until a clone body is destroyed. The archangel could simply be added to that pool.

Well, I admit that I kind of want to manifest an upgraded version of [Salvo of Vanity] ;) That aside, I'm not sure if you include me in "some people". Chances are you do ;) There are a few points why I am as vocal about my engagement as I am: (1) I watch some writing advice YouTubers and one of my learnings is that satisfying stories give unspoken promises and pay them off. So I want to essentially tell Melas what promises I feel are unresolved to support his writing and give him feedback on how things get across (to me). (2) I like speculating and that might inspire Melas. (3) The purpose of stories is to engage audiences. And following the "Show, don't tell"-rule, I show my engagement by speculating and giving my opinion as a way to reward Melas for the quality of his writing. Although I don't think there's a definitive rule more comments = better chapter Does that make sense?

Dragonmaster_42

I probably could have worded this better. that isn't exactly what I meant. What I mean is, rather than discussing each chapter, its starting to feel like some people are trying dictate how they want the story to go, which is why I said to "let Melas cook."

Crashdevil

How does someone literally get humbled (on the verge of death) and still act this way, if he has no access to his divine essence that corruption is barely going anywhere

Travis Brown

I thought about that too, but clones have a sense of self and a sense of duty so IDK how that would turn out

Travis Brown

Generally, I agree! In this specific instance, I think it needs to be Salvos. (1) Edithe is one of Salvos' companions and thanks to her deal with the Archangel, she will die unless someone magnitudes stronger than pre-vesselized Edithe shows up for him to cooperate with. (2) Matriarch Centinel behaves like either she or Mavos Academy will fall; both have a story arc with Salvos that needs to be resolved. (3) Salvos needs as many 200+s as possible in her path to level. (4) Matriarch Centinel is an amazing opponent for developing Salvos' use of corruption and divinity. (5) Salvos is the story's protagonist. Other POVs set up great feats on her end. We don't see the countless lives Daniel saved in the elf war in this manner; same goes for the Elites in the Beastlands. (6) Salvos knows something urgent is going on with her companions and children. She needs to show up. In short, I think this is the perfect situation for Salvos to return and it has even been set up perfectly. Both from a meta perspective as well as plot&story reasons. It's as much a prediction as it is a wish. That said, Melas might surprise us. It would be tough and it doesn't feel like that kind of situation, but we'll need to see.

Dragonmaster_42

I know the series is titled after Salvos, but I honestly can't understand the obsession with the idea of Salvos showing up to save the day here. Let Melas cook.

Crashdevil

My point exactly 😉 Although I hope his powers aren't fully tied to that clone or they are wasted when he gets himself killed. Better exist as a secondary conscious in Salvos' main body alongside Sally and just control clones! That way, he gets unlimited respawns and a powerful body while Salvos gets a lot of skills and energy 👍

Dragonmaster_42

Maybe we can put the Archangel in a salvos clone.

Tim

The only ways I see this working out beyond the next few chapters is either (a) the Archangel is transfered from Edithe to Salvos or (b) Archangel/Edithe constantly trailing behind Salvos to share the Archangel's skills with her via Edithe's skill. I absolutely don't see the Archangel actively in control of Edithe beyond the fight or he will get her killed in a matter of hours.

Dragonmaster_42

I hope Edithe will get her turn in the driver's seat again eventually lol

Cha0sniper

Hey Melas! Thanks for the chapter! This fight is so damn engaging! Great work! I can't wait to see it continued! And I also can't wait to see Salvos show up! I mean she must be aware of what Sally experienced! Especially Edithe's and Rachel's fate up to Sally's destruction! If it wasn't Salvos that caused the explosion, she must be in an even more reckless hurry than usual! It's like she's forced to leave two of her companions to die because of her circumstance (possibly her evolution)! I think that really sells the urgency and impact of the scene!

Dragonmaster_42

@MelasDelta You keep putting out these updates at such a rapid pace. You really deserve some time to take a break and rest.

ArcaneOverride

Well considering that they are piggybacking on the infrastructure of spirit contracts, they will probably split it.

ArcaneOverride

About time the Archangel stops being a git for a second. I figure the situation is akin to learning to live with a stranger for both of them, but more intimate. Regardless though, the Archangel is insufferably pompous.

WingedIkaros

If they manage to kill the matriarch who gets the exp

Travis Brown

Thank you for the chapter! Looking forward to more. Salvos is honestly one of my favorite series right now.
