Susan #84 - Doctor's Checkup

My apologies for being late with this one again. I still remember it was supposed to be May thing for Mayternity, but life & motivation has an interesting way of working sometimes. Maybe promising nothing will work better!

But that's not important. What is important is what is revealed in this scene... 👀

----

September 11, 2017 - (A month after #83, 12 weeks into Susan's pregnancy)

“Ah, Susan Bronwyn! Good to have you back here, how have you been?” The doctor held the door open for her as she walked into the examination room.

“H-hi! I’ve been good, thank you...” Susan didn’t know where to put her hands so she ended up hiding behind her back. The doctor looked down the hall.

“Your husband... he’s not here?”

“No... Something came up and he had to take care of his younger brothers. He really wanted to be here to see the ultrasound... So instead he’ll pick me up in like an hour.”

“I see, well then when you see him you can show him the ultrasound photo. So...” She signaled to the medical bed, which already had the ultrasound machine attached to it and ready to go. “Sit down if you’d like.”

Susan did so as she suggested, the doctor grabbed a chair from nearby and sat down as well. “So! How has the pregnancy been treating you so far? Anything you are unsure or worried about?”

“Uhm...” She felt her baby bump as she considered the extent of what she would tell her. It was a narrow space between her thighs and bosom, but that wouldn’t stop her instinctively feeling it. “I guess... just feeling very sensitive. Around here as well as...” Her volume tapered down as she finished the sentence, Susan felt her cheeks warm from embarrassment. When Susan glanced back at the doctor however, she nodded firmly and smiled. It brought comfort to Susan, realizing that the professional probably has heard that plenty of times.

“A-and... also the usual mood swings and getting tired quickly. Things I’d normally be fine doing, now I need just a short break before I can get back into it. B-but that’s all normal right?”

“Mhmm! Pretty much, but be on the look out if the fatigue gets particularly worse. But yeah, it seems like your body is adapting well. How’s the morning sickness by the way?” The doctor took some notes on her clipboard.

“Oh yeah! At times I still feel a bit sick, but that’s not even close to what it was last month.”

“That’s great to hear. Seems like the dietary changes your husband did has helped with that.”

Susan chuckled as she could already imagine Nathan’s smirk when he would inevitably hear about it. “Looks like it, hehe.”

“All good then! I’ll just run a few tests and then we’ll see how your baby is doing in there.”

“Okay!”

The doctor preformed regular prenatal checkups, consisting of checking Susan’s weight, blood pressure and bodily fluid tests. Before long it was time for the ultrasound. Susan happily laid down on the bed and pulled up her shirt to reveal her belly. She did have to lift up her bra quite a bit to give the doctor more clearance with the scanner. Each time Susan thought she had pulled them far enough, the doctor gently asked to bring them up further. Susan happily looked to the monitor as the machine visualized what was inside her uterus.

It was difficult to see, but as soon as the monitor showed something resembling a baby’s head and body, Susan squealed of joy. She felt her eyes tear up as she heard the beating heart of her first baby.

But then another baby was visible as well. The squeal was quickly followed up with a gasp as a third emerged. Or was it the first? The doctor grumbled as shapes flitted in and out of view seemingly randomly. Susan had no idea, and neither the doctor as she was squinting eye hard firmly. She lightly pressed up on Susan's bra so she could try and get a better angle but couldn’t manage it. The doctor put the scanner aside and stood up.

“Well Susan, it certainly looks like you’re having multiples!”

“R-really?!”

A torrent of emotions washed over her, quite like what she felt back when she held the pregnancy test. However that sense of dread was now vastly overshadowed by sheer bliss. They were having twins after all! Just like she thought!

Wait... she said multiples?

“I’ll go and quickly find a colleague of mine, he’s an ultrasonographer so hopefully, he will be able to double check exactly see how many you’re having, I’ll be back in a little bit!”

Susan could only nod, but even then the doctor probably didn’t even see her face with her bust in the way. In that short moment of being alone, her head went wild with the possibilities. Would that mean triplets? Or even quadruplets? Could she even dare to think quintuplets? She felt slightly embarrassed knowing the terms by memory, she couldn’t help herself.

Before Susan knew it she returned with another doctor. They briefly exchanged pleasantries before all three sets of eyes were locked to the ultrasound monitor.

He also had quite a bit of trouble getting a clear image, but was seemingly doing better than her doctor. “It is very difficult to know for certain at this current stage, but my personal assessment would be... triplets. I’ve seen this happen before when there’s a lot of extraneous tissue between the babies and the belly. It’s nothing to worry about but it does make it slightly difficult to get a solid count.” Said the other doctor.

“Mhmm... I would wager there is at least one more but I really can’t say anything more for certain. So Susan!” She laughed briefly. “I’m so sorry, figuring this out completely captivated me. It seems congratulations are in order, you are going to have a big family!”

“T-t-thank you!” She was completely flabbergasted.

Everything that happened afterwards was a blur to her. Even though she and Nathan joked about twins, she didn’t actually consider the possibility of being even larger, those were only reserved for her wildest dreams. Susan vaguely recalls getting a flyer from her doctor, getting a message from Nathan and meeting up with him, getting into the car with Eli and Noah before travelling back home.

How would she even begin to tell him what transpired that day?

Isn't that like 17!? 🤔

Auctus177

That's certainly true! I'd say it will probably edge a bit into hyperpreg, but nothing too crazy. I do intend on continuing the story of the kids someday, so too many and things will be quite hard to follow. With that said though, I'm pretty sure they will feel and look distinct from one another as I put much more thought into Susan's and have the pregnancy more as a secondary element.

I hope it's not too much. You already had a hyper preg with Emi, Susan's supposed to be the "normal" sized one!

“Triplets? Quadruplets? Quintuplets? Could she even dare to think Sexdecuplets?”
