The answer seems easy, but what kasko is feeling is understandable. He doesn't have to go, but i can see where the strife comes from. He's become attached to his new friends, and doesn't want to see them die either, so he tries to talk them out of it... But it's divine intervention, how can he? He might also very well have nowhere else to go and no other companionship to turn to, so this must be a tough choice.
