I am addressing this issue here as opposed to the community board so that everyone can hear the answer as most people do not check the community board and thus only a few would hear the explanation for Katy’s complaint…
I can tell from Katy’s questions that she does not have a photographic background because the two main reasons a photo does not appear as “high resolution” is due to low light/not sufficient lighting or if the photo was taken on a cell phone where the file size is still large but the sensor of the camera is much smaller than my professional camera that Katy is comparing the photos to, so the cell phone photos when zoomed in will be more blurry especially if it is a full body shot where it is taken at a distance. If I bring the camera closer to Kylins face and there is enough light the photo will appear much clearer and the same on the DSLR, the further away you are from the subject the more blurred the details are when you zoom in.
I have never exported photos the highest resolution possible for several reasons…(even in the past “backshot” photos of Kylin that Katy had used in the examples)
Here are my thoughts on pixel peeping and explanations for “perceived lower resolution” on some of the recent photo sets…
1. There is no need to micro “pixel peep” unless you are wanting to zoom in on private areas you should not be zooming in on. All photos are in high enough resolution and the same resolution or higher when the photos that are taken in low light or the cell phone…and why do I sometimes post photos from the cell phone?…when we shoot the same day we post and I am hours away from my desk top computer where I need to transfer any photos taken by the DSLR to process/post. We have a schedule on Patreon that we need to adhere to in order to be fair to everyone.
I think Katy also asked why I don’t transfer photos directly to my phone from the DSLR when I’m out….because it takes too long, I usually don’t have good wifi if any, and I usually have hundreds of photos on my DSLR at any given time and each photo file from the DSLR is too big/RAW that it would chew up the memory space on my phone fast.
Here are the rest of the reasons why I do not export photos at their highest resolution but never have even 2 years ago as Katy’s examples show…
2. I have taken 40,000 photos on my DSLR in less than 2 years and if I export all photos at their highest resolution I would be burning through computer memory too quickly.
3. The higher the resolution of each photo posted on Patreon the slower the photos/posts load for you when you are trying to view them especially when you need to scroll and bring up older posts. This would mean unhappy and frustrated members.
3. Patreon and word press the web hosting website we used auto reduce file sizes anyways to save on memory space and so the pages load faster.
4. Even so, the resolution of the Photos posted on Patreon are sufficient for you to enjoy. As I stated earlier there is no good that can come out of pixel peeping as there is no need to pixel peep into Kylins private areas in order to enjoy her photos.
The resolution posted here unless taken in low light or cell phone is MUCH higher/better than on any social media as they auto lower the resolution of all photos to save on memory. It doesn’t matter if you post a 50mg file it will still appear slightly blurred when zoomed in. The photos I post here are not slightly blurred UNLESS again, it is in low light or taken with the cell phone/ or the subject is far away which.
5. Wheather I posted a photo at 50MG or 1 MG most of us are on our cell phones and scroll through each photo, and we do not zoom in on every single photo we look at and cannot tell the difference in file size UNLESS you plan on posting the photo to a billboard then yes you will notice a significant difference between the file sizes but only then would it become apparent…not on a phone or computer.
6. I have the largest Mac screen size on the market and the photos do not apprear blurred unless in low light/cell phone or taken far away.
Hopefully Katy and others will have a better understanding/explanation for what they are seeing. Feel free to chime in on this discussion. I will address any questions you may have so that we can put this issue to rest and can focus on what is coming up for February…hints coming this week! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have deleted the $5 membership as there was VERY FEW members in the Thank you tier.
