2021-12-10 23:16:34 +0000 UTCAfter watching flora 3 (his 4th part) I think I have some opinions now. I believe, and I could be wrong, but I think the spitfire part was old footage. There’s something about it that doesn’t seem up to date. The clothes, his hair, his skating… seems like it’s 2-3 years ago maybe. The lack of enthusiasm and innovation in that part compared to his other parts is apparent and I think it could have been bonus/throw away footage from years before. This could be tied to him having to make videos for sponsors or whatever so he tried to kill two birds, soty and his sponsors, with one (or 3) stones. Again, just an opinion not based in fact. To further prove my point however, his flora 3 part seems way more like the suciu I was used to seeing, like the one in verso. Yes there are a couple tricks/lines where it seems a little drawn out, but there is an undeniably impressive barrage of tricks that I had never seen before and were almost hinted to at the end of the spitfire part when he killed blubba. I believe that flora was his “passion project” for lack of better words. He’s not a typical hand rail skater. No one wants to see him do a smith or a feeble on a hand rail when he can do what he can do on ledges. BUT, this time he skated hand rails his way. He brought his tech, smoothness, and creativity to hand rails to apply his own skill to that discipline of skating and to that, I commend him. I found that extremely impressive in the flora part. I feel as though these 4 parts went from cool, to weird tiresome gimmick, to an impressive feat that I don’t think and won’t think will be overlooked. I think that mark has made himself undeniable and I’m sure that was part of the strategy. It seems as though all the bangers were kept for the last (maybe) part. Idk how you feel about this but I’m interested in your opinion on the last part. Should he have condensed it all into one great part like verso? This I’m not sure about because it seems that has never helped him achieve his goal of SOTY in the past. I personally think it’s okay to have this as a goal if it means it proves pro skaters can put out more than 1 part every 5 years while they party the rest of the time. His dedication to skating alone deserves a SOTY. {MUY MUCHO TEXTO} **side note: I thought his back noseblunt after busenitz was in slo-mo until I watched a 2nd time and realized busenitz just skates that fast lol

He decided to try and make it within the skate industry instead of going further with his studies. Of course he comes across a bit different. I think he did the choice a few years ago to be as good/successful as he could. So yeah, I think he is deliberately trying to get SOTY. It makes sens for him. It would for me, even if I love skating as he does. Nothing about being a mastermind, just making the best out off the choice he made.

Suciu may come off as some sort of genius but I doubt that he masterminded a SOTY conspiracy across all of his sponsors and so on. I think people just hate him because he is weird.

In a year where a lot of skaters I personally like haven’t even made a part or put out ANY content I can appreciate someone actually attempting to put a good amount of core skating out for people to watch. I agree there is definitely some filler and one really strong part would be preferable but I don’t know if it’s fair to say that since the parts were for three different sponsors who’s to say how much of a choice he had as to how they were split up or released

I think that his lines are actually quite enjoyable. Having a longer line with a flatground trick in the middle is kinda oldschool and fits the New York skater vibe imo. I do think he has a fair bit of filler in here, and I definitely agree he should have just done 1 super banger part. That being said, I am curious if there was pressure from sponsors to do multiple parts?

2021-11-26 20:51:35 +0000 UTCTo elaborate: I appreciate your take, and you are not wrong to notice the “try hard/overthink” tendency, but Mark is trying hard to put out innovative parts in an era when things like Thrasher are sadly losing relevance to things like Cariuma/Street league/Olympics. SOTY may be overblown hype anyway, but at least Suciu is still directing his efforts towards a goal that is still within the remit of “core” skateboarding. Yes, there is something calculated about this, but they don’t give soty to aloof cool guy weirdos, never have. Two words: Chris Cole. I loved your take, but I think that MS is the coolest option we have this year, all things considered.

It’s pretty telling that half the feedback is, “this is not what Mark does/what I want to see” He can’t win no matter what he does in the “core” eyes, and he got robbed for SOTY. Get ya shit Mark. Especially when the person who started the hate train, didn’t even have a single clip in the team video his sponsor just put out.

For as insanely good as his skating is, it should be EVEN BETTER if he takes chances. Flat out, it's fun to watch people get something where you can tell they surprised themselves.

I see people quote you all the time but play it off as their opinion. I hope there aren’t too many people who wait for reviewers opinions to decide what they thought of something because it’s fucking lame. I think people think that if you like someone you have to agree with EVERYTHING they say. I love some of your opinions but I couldn’t care less about some of your other opinions (“Could care less” doesn’t make sense) I always look forward to your videos even when I don’t agree with you. I would LOVE to see you review a hidden gem called Deck Dogz, I found this film at a carboot sale when I was a kid and it’s the worst movie I’ve ever seen and it needs way more recognition.
