Question…did supreme/strobeck ruin/help skateboarding? Since cherry skating has gotten reeeeaaal crazy I think both good and bad

Absolutely. This thread makes me think of how great Adam Bos's vids are. https://vimeo.com/264539813.

Yeah. That's also another facet: like is professional skateboarding even relevant at all any more? If everybody is good nowadays, and the display of skill is kind of boring, shouldn't we learn to appreciate and embrace different approaches? I think we are already there, we just haven't really admitted it yet.

I totally agree, idk where my comment went but sry if it came out poorly!
I kind of see the same thing happening to some musicians and smaller DIY record labels. when the pressures off, good things happen. like smoking room in Oakland releasing tons of tapes and supporting all sorts of great small acts.

In some ways, it's better now for the rest of us, because we can make videos without the pressure of needing to sell anything. The videos can be more personal, perhaps more interesting, and thus might even mean more to our smaller audience. Homie skate videos are still great. My point was that professional skate videos have kind of gotten played out, and the reasons for this should be obvious.

We agree. Us amateurs (those of us who skate because we love it, not because it's our job) will probably keep making skate videos as passion projects, and those videos will hopefully continue to be special to those of us that care. My point was that most PROFESSIONAL skate video parts are un-inspiring and, given the state of things these days (contest/advertising money, the meaninglessness of board sponsors, etc) pointless.

rlly wish there were cooler companies coming out of Europe for people like Tom to skate for other than supreme- but then again there are things like Bag lady (who u mentioned earlier in the year) and yard sale which are both cool so I guess I can’t blame Tom for not turning down that supreme paycheck

Not to mention his attitude, demeanor (his face)- much more agreeable than all the other people in that video

Just watched that ‘Hello’ to see what you were on about. Some crusty spots throughout which was sick but the music was shite. Woolley is a gnarbag and the best skater out the lot of them.
The last trick was a 5050 down a square handrail but he jumped on the flat at the top then rode down the kink going that slow he was nearly going backwards.
If you ollie onto the flat at the top of a handrail then ride down, you’re a fucking cheat

Just being spicy here, but in the Monarch section (19:00) when you talk about how there's probably never going to be an actual "pro" street part from either of their pros, Laeticia (sp?) and Sky Brown (a contest skater). I think that's just where we're at. We shouldn't expect a company to give any shit about putting out video parts either in a traditional team video or a polished narrative style (Dylan Gravis/Torey Bigger Bang, etc) because they simply don't make sense anymore. The solo pro video part kind of made obsolete the brand video (they're still being made, but they're increasingly forgettable now) and these new pros make their money from advertising and competing and influencing (or whatever). They don't need to film parts, and probably kids who will support them don't demand parts from them. I say good riddance. As you said before, video parts are less noteworthy by the day now.
