it's a lot like that part of Boogie Nights (yes, there is an analogy for any and all aspects of online content-creation/reception in every part of Boogie Nights) where, threatened by the ascendancy of amateur porn and video in the early 1980's, Jack Horner takes Roller Girl onto the road, and tries to do real-life pornography with complete strangers. Horner and Roller Girl are old school: their training and temperament was about cinematic production, scripted porn with plots, and their breaking out of the mold to try to fit the changing market proved disastrous. In this analogy John Hill is Jack Horner (JH, hmm...) and Gifted Hater is Floyd Gondoli, leader of the new wave. My point being is that, yeah, we can't really expect someone like John Hill to be self-aware or to see too far outside of the little echo chamber he has built for himself on Youtube. This was his bread and butter for formative adult years, and the inevitable isolation that happens with real or imagined internet fame is a massive head-fuck. He's more to be pitied than hated.

My main gripe with Johnny boy is that he seems to have such a negative attitude especially ab skating with other people. I saw a recent vid where he was complaining that people want to skate all day and hang out and he just wants to go back and edit and do his business stuff and he feels like his time is wasted and it comes off really unlikeable.
