Worth mentioning that there’s also a difference between skater owner and skater operated. I more so wondered like, what steps should the entire core community take to prevent those corporate brands from expanding and out pricing smaller companies. I lived with a gf for like 2 years and my skating seriously suffered in that time because I was not going as often in order to spend time with her. We ended up getting burned out on each other from spending too much time together anyway so I'm not sure that spending less time on your hobbies is even the answer. I think as long as you're not completely sacrificing one for the other, that's more than reasonable. Your girlfriend should have hobbies and interests of her own too, but also yeah def don't just ditch hanging with your girl because they also don't like that lol

I'm living together with my gf for about 4 years and started skating more and more since the pandemic. It's for sure put some strain on the relationship and she would complain sometimes that I'd put skating before her, which was true sometimes. Let's say if we didn't have plans I'd always go skate instead of just hanging out. Dick move fs. Now I try to skate whenever she's away. Luckily we both have our own lives so there's still enough time. For example she has a thing Monday night, so I always try to skate then. I just try to not skate when we're both off so we can do something together. I think I skate for like 4-6h a week. Problem is long street sessions for example, it's hard to align with all the homies. But as long as you're not always gone for half the weekend it should be fine. But I definitely had occasions where I'd rather go skate, can't have everything ig.

If you're skating a manny pad there's really no reason, should wear one when walking aswell then. Also it's not that frowned upon I don't think. At my local you wouldnt catch hate. Only kids or some hardcore core old heads care but you shouldn't really care about their opinion. Respect for the helmets out there

He is more favored than mark tho because literally no one could ever hate Louie. His tricks are good and clean and he has creative style. Money could be thrown at his soty winnings because he has all the big sponsors (cons stance fa Volcom? Is he still on Volcom?) and they’d throw him a big soty party and whatever else. Tfunk soty is also equally good too. He dropped a good part. Fast barrage violent attacking tricks, legendary nbd at legendary spot. I have a hunch he’ll drop more footy, yesterday while flipping through a copy of the latest angel dust zine and he had an interview. He didn’t mention anything about more footy but there was a photo of him skatinf the casting ponds in golden gate park (another legendary sf skate spot bc the pond is only drained for 3 days out of the entire year) and he was blasting a fat ass air over one of the hips/pyramids and to my knowledge there’s no footy of it. In his interview was pretty short but good funny and interesting. I could see him taking the cake and all it would really need is one more solid part and the world would be sold

2022-10-02 21:38:00 +0000 UTCHot take: your beef with the BATB rule “no doing tricks that slide on the ground if your opponent popped their trick” is totally reasonable given the way it’s written but misunderstands the intent behind the rule. If you watch over the years there has never been any push from refs to ensure that, e.g., a fully rotated backside 360 is matched on defense without any pivot/revert/slide. But they will make someone redo a nollie shuv (no pop) if the trick was set as a nollie pop shuv. So your beef is most accurately expressed not as lack of enforcement of the rule but rather the rule being poorly written. They should have written it as “if your opponent pops their trick, you too must pop your trick” to avoid confusion.

Cheap credit and culture of spending allows for backyard pool skating to take off, dissatisfaction and lower home ownership among Xers leads to the first wave of street skating in the early 90s, boom times in the late 90s/early 2000s helps push comp skating to the forefront of the sport, and the recent economic collapse/malaise/death of American industry leads to more abandoned spaces and the return of street skating as the backbone of the skate industry. If anyone has actually written about this I would love to know bc I’m just making this up as I go
