Just random bangers on Instagram while showing up at all the industry events and crushing it. He’s been in the conversation for many years now and I truly feel like he deserves a win. Also in 2013 Ishod won for dropping four parts as well, of course the context in which the parts dropped were different but I do feel as tho that set a precedent for guys who can film easily.

She and Alexis I think really had to kill themselves to get any acceptance in skating.

2022-10-04 04:41:59 +0000 UTCin batb the pop rule is also known as the "Brezinski rule" and was put into place after a match where Joey Brezinski did the unpopped version of any popped shuvit set by whoever he was playing against. since it wasn't in the rules he got away with it I guess and they made the new rule right after. but I agree that a rule should be subject to the ref's interpretation and that it'd be good to apply them to other cases. no one really takes the reffing seriously though

She articulates these issues so well, including why the development of woman’s street skating was stunted in part by brands previously being uninterested in supporting women in skating outside of the contest circuit

Obviously it would be good to have a rule for every single situation but you can't account for everything in the rules imo (and the pivot rule would a good rule, but again I'm not sure how specific you can be with such a rule since some degree of pivoting has to be allowed)

I think there's the base set of rules, but situations come up in the game and the ref has to make judgment calls based on known principles in skating

2022-10-04 01:56:58 +0000 UTCon the BATB rule, IIRC the rule was specifically added after some skaters didn't pop their shuvs on defense (maybe Marc Johnson with the 360 shuv?), so the intent of the rule is known. I agree with the question-asker that the rule is simply poorly written for its purpose. I also don't think the plain text of rule necessarily applies to the situations you're referencing with the 360s. "Don't do tricks that slide on the ground if your opponent popped their trick." The second half of the rule--"if your opponent popped their trick"--modifies and contextualizes the language in the first half of the rule. So, if your opponent pops, you also must pop--your trick can't simply slide around on the ground. The rule says nothing about rotation, pivoting, or the magnitude of pop/airtime you have to maintain. Obviously some degree of pivoting is okay and it's hard to create a bright-line rule for pivoting 360s/fs flips/etc., particularly on defense. Having said all this, you don't need a rulebook to disqualify Griffin's fake 360s. The ref has the responsibility to call those out as fake regardless.
