But I think if you think someone has some fucked up beliefs, that you don’t agree with then not calling them out on that for the sake of remaining “apolitical” is ultimately kind of whack. For better or worse every single thing that a person experiences is influenced on some level by this stuff so I think it’s better everybody tries and deprogram themselves from thinking of these kinds of issues as partisan, left/right political ideologies when they mostly just boil down to personal autonomy and treating others fairly. I do think you have a better understanding of this than most though. But I also agree that you’ve got a good lane that’s worth sticking to, but there is just an absolute void of punditry when it comes to the skate world in general so all of us wretched little hobgoblins need you to tick a lot of very different boxes for us all.

I built my audience based off mostly apolitical videos, so once I reach a certain number or status I have to transition my videos to overtly political content? If I go into explaining why Mikey Taylor is bad for being alt right, I also have to explain why being pro life is wrong and all of a sudden I’m researching extremely contentious issues in this country when I’m a YouTube channel about skateboarding. I think the gap between those two things is a massive leap and I would be taking on something that’s not appropriate for my audience. I can do girls in skateboarding and research that because it’s directly related to my area of knowledge and it is affecting the skateboarding community in a direct and obvious way. Randomly going on some tyrade about Mikey Taylor being alt right is so specific and of no immediate consequence to people in skateboarding. It’s such a huge issue that eclipses the jurisdiction of my channel I don’t feel personally responsible for tackling it honestly. I didn’t even know what intersectionality was before reading this comment section. I’m not trying to play dumb or anything but right now I just want to cover tyshawn and nyjah because that’s my job and that’s what I’m interested in doing. I do plan on making a video about vans virtue signaling and using queer skaters to modify their branding without giving enough in return. I feel comfortable doing that because its skateboarding industry shit and I know what I’m talking about. Idk enough about the alt right to get on a soap box, I think there’s issues in skating I’m better suited to discuss that need to be addressed before I start making general political content.

Joa is that way about skateboarding's intricacies and that's why his videos work. Maybe he could educate himself and feel the need to make content about it but it's not something you can force. If you want that stuff, I'm sure you can look at other parts of youtube or better yet, make your own channel. I get you want this brought to the forefront but you can't force or fake your passion or it won't work.

The thing that's making me so irate is that most of you along with Joa seem to operate under the assumption that his current line of content and some more politically overt stances are incompatible. Why?! I think they would go together wonderfully. This weird reflex to talk and act in a manner that is often very political but insist at full force that politics don't interest you / isn't "what you do", all while living in a democracy, makes so little sense to me, is such an obvious paradox, that I'm repeatedly stunned by how casually it is said and accepted.
