Yeah, I do remember when these kinds of episodes were in every show. And honestly the older I get the more I become those people who need the reminder at the start of each season lol

Oooh, I should read those! Are the Dark Horse comics set before after or during Avatar and Korra?

These kind of flashback episodes were very trendy back in the day, and it makes sense, you could only watch the series on tv depending on the program, it could take years between the seasons and people might have missed some episodes, so I understand why they tried to keep everyone fresh for the final, but damn I'm glad it's not a thing anymore :p
The end of the serie definitely feels like an end of a chapter, a good-bye, but an open one, like "it's the end for now, but who knows, maybe we'll resurrect the franchise some days"
Seems like these days are coming

Just to put your mind at ease the show does have an ending.
But there's also a number of comics that were released after the show ended that were written by Michael Dante DiMartino and are considered a direct continuation of the show. Currently there's two Dark Horse series that are three parts each called Turf Wars and Ruins of the Empire with a third series releasing next year in February called Mystery of Penquan Island.

There's reportedly a sequel to LoK set 100 years later coming next year. There's an animated film planned for 2026 focusing on Aang and his friends as young adults.

i have a lot of thoughts about the end of korra and how another season would have helped a lot but they were held back by budget restraints and nickelodeon. that's why this ep was made in the first place, originally episode 9 was gonna be a two parter with this being part 1 but they had to cut an entire episode due to budget restraints

LoK is technically the furthest in the timeline yeah, There are comics that go a little after season 4 but it doesn't go nearly as in depth as the ATLA ones imo which have years of the gang's adventures and growth after the finale, which also can be hit or miss sometimess
