I like how they front load character building with Holden and Miller to draw you into the show. This gives them the freedom to slow burn the character exploration of the other characters. If they focused on building up everyone at the same time I don't think you would be as invested in all the characters or it wouldn't have been done as well. It also makes rewatching the show fun because once you know more about the characters you can see even in episode one how they slow built the characters.

2023-02-28 22:29:46 +0000 UTCI was watching one of the early Superman movies at a theatre once (in the 80's I believe!) and the sound turned off just when the characters were on the moon. Some smart ass in the theatre yells out "there's no sound in space!" which made us all laugh. Never forgot that!

2023-02-27 23:41:53 +0000 UTCNice move with the intro! Avasarala's work is in some way the hardest one when it comes to assembling the puzzle of the story. She has little to no information and parts of it are/were misleading. Interesting angle given that for example she has no way to act violently, no gun to point, but has to act carefully with tools available to her. The spy guy. Interesting bit is that the actor was the second slosest to get the part of Amos and apparently one of the two who understood Amose's character. As you have noticed before the show is blessed with dozens of great supporting characters - casting is incredibly good. The Rocinante. The show has this... naval aspect - some ships are almost like characters in the series and have their own story arcs. It is not as important as for example in the Battlestar Galactica or Firefly, but I think a nice detail to think about.

I also somewhat agree with Amos at this point that Holden is too idealistic and only wants to do right when it really costs nothing.

2023-02-24 01:49:51 +0000 UTCFunnily enough, in the books the mariner valley on mars was colonized by east indians, chinese and people from the area that was once texas. The martian colonists are actually very ethnically diverse because the colonization effort drew from alot of different groups on earth. Over time everyone's from that part of mars adopted the sourthern drawl of the texans. In universe a lot of people actually find the mariner accent annoying, in one of the first few chapters holden thinks to himself that there hasn't been a cowboy on earth in a hundred years and there's nothing on mars to resemble one, yet the accent wont go away.
