Original first episode script, which was leaked, establishes the "love triangle" with more jealousy from Laila, etc. But then it was cut from EP01 because Rafe thought that they'd have 10 episodes per season, but they were cut back to 8. EP01 script originally had the Fade following Rand as well. But then instead of getting that good stuff, we got Egwene being tossed from a cliff. Anyway, the writers just weren't smart enough to cut or redo this scene from EP07.

My feel is that this scene was originally written with Mat there, and without him they had an issue coming up with reasons for them to be fighting. I feel that is the case because just how quickly the "Love triangle" is resolved
