I quit watching the first season, 4 times because the plot was nothing like the books. So I skipped it completely and started watching season 2 three days ago in hope it might fall back inline with the books and couldn't stop watching. Even though, other than names and places, it has nothing to do with the books really. To be fair, I started reading the books 30 years ago; my memories are a little spotty. I wanted to watch it with people who actually read the books just to see if i was wrong. I wish they would have named it something else though.

There’s definitely a way to do what you’re saying but in an 8 episode season they need to get to it. I want entrees, not appetizers. Appetizers are for 22 episode shows.

You may be seeing the good guys but the choices currently driving the narrative are coming from the bad guys, (Liandrin pushing Nyneave to arches, controlling Mat and Min- Ishy sending the seanchan to capture Perrin only to let him go with fresh fear- Selene doing things to Rand), It's the bad guys world and the good guys haven't caught on yet enough to make decisions against that narrative. The execution of this form of storytelling is unfortunately not at it's best because they still want you to see the good guys more and not reveal all the bad guys plans so I think that accounts for the weirdness in the presented structure.
