Oh my boy! Zoro is the goat. He's definitely the straight man of the crew to knock sense into them ( sometimes lmao) but he has his silly moments . It is slightly explained in the next episode , but to elaborate Luffy is basically impervious to blunt damage. Even if pointed if it's mostly blunt it won't hurt him, which is why Alvedas club didn't work. Sharp things like blades do, as Captain Morgan suggests later .

And to answer the unasked question, I'm pretty sure he punched the flats of those swords to break them.

man, I'm glad you're enjoying the style so far. Some people don't like it, and it takes them a while to liike the show. But if you're one of the ones who likes it from the first few episodes, It's just a good time the whole time. And it just gets better

Luffy isn't necessarily invincible, but he's pretty much immune to any kind of bludgeoning damage, and of course the round muzzle ball bullets that piratey flintlock pistols fire. Piercing/slashing damage DOES work, though.
