I've always interpreted Lust more as bloodlust in her character's actions and what excited her. Lust's appearance is just a nod to the other definition.

There's some spoiler stuff about the homunculi I won't go into, but they all do fit their names, just maybe not their more colloquial uses. For example, Lust is physically sexy, but personality-wise better aligns with bloodlust, perhaps.
The significance of the Hohenheim scenes is both to add his perspective to the scene where he leaves (showing Ed might be a little biased in his feelings towards dear old dad), and to show that Hohenheim is also aware of Father's plan, which prompts him leaving.
