With modern medicine I can give my kidney to my brother, but wind the clock back a few hundred years and that isn't even something I can imagine. This is the paradigm shift that Ed brings to the table in the last episode: alchemy isn't just revealed truth, it's a connection to Truth: a transaction that can be renegotiated.

2023-12-31 23:41:57 +0000 UTCI think it's important to note that what Ed did was pull a STILL ALIVE person, body and soul, from the other side of the Portal by giving up his alchemy; a fairly specific situation, and I don't think that price would apply to bringing someone dead back to life (which is actually impossible, based on my understanding of alchemy from the show).
